What I do like is pretty much anything I've read by Melanie Moreland, and I figure if anyone can win me over with a kidnapper romance, it will be her. What I do like is pretty much anything I've read by Melanie Moreland, and I figure if anyone can win me over with a kidnapper romance, it will be her. So, I started reading - and I didn't stop until I absolutely could not hold my eyes open any longer. I absolutely love this kidnapper romance. It's definitely not what I would consider anything close to Stockholm syndrome, but I'll just tell you that even if it were, Dante is so darn lovable, I don't think I would've minded.
The story is all about the insta-lust, but honestly, I can remember being pretty attracted to my man when we first met, so insta-lust away, Dante and Brianna, because I couldn't get enough of this couple. Then, there are the cakes! I was ready to hit the local bakery and just bring everything home. (I'm not much of a baker, but I can order up a storm at the bakery counter.)
To sum it up, My Favorite Kidnapper is funny, it's sweet, and it's sexy. That's a hard-to-beat combination, in my opinion.
Turns out, reading this one wasn't nearly enough of this couple, so I listened. The audiobook was everything I hoped for, and when I reread the book (because I definitely will), Maxine Mitchell and John Lane will be the voices in my head. I've listened to and enjoyed both narrators several times, and they pull out all the stops on this one. Dante's arrogance, Brianna's insecurity, the mutual attraction that becomes so much more... all of it comes through in the performances of John Lane and Maxine Mitchell. Melanie Moreland couldn't have placed My Favorite Kidnapper in better hands. So, read it, listen to it, or follow my suggestion and do both! You won't regret it.

Dante is an art dealer and lives in Italy but has come over to attend his goddaughter’s wedding. He is very mysterious as he strolls around until the wedding cake catches his eye because it looks like a work of art. Meeting the beautiful baker changes his life forever. He is shocked by his intense feelings for her and doesn’t understand his fascination with her. He is amused by her anger and surprised as she is the only person to ever tell him off. Didn’t she know who he was!!
Brianna is a sassy, independent and proud young woman. She survived living in the foster system so has been alone her whole life. Her daily life is a struggle and she’s worked hard for everything she’s got but now she’s in debt. She has made the wedding cake for her friend Carolina. Cake decorating is her passion and she’s working towards owning her own bakery. She is currently building up a reputation with her fantasy wedding cakes. She is furious at the stranger who touches her cake then steals her cupcakes and a kiss. Normally a shy and awkward girl, he manages to bring out a feisty side to her personality. He may be charming and handsome but she is so angry with him.
After some dubious and insane ways of finding her, he gives her a proposal. Dante has a sweet tooth and knows what he wants and he wants her and her cakes. When she refuses his offer he takes things into his own hands to make it happen. He just couldn’t help himself kidnapping her because he needed to have her and thinks there’s nothing wrong with what he did. What he has done is totally out of character and continues to be while she’s around. She is a force to be reckoned with but her cakes are unbelievable. It is so funny as he has no idea what is building between them or how to handle it and can’t work out his emotions.
Their relationship develops at his villa in the beautiful Italian countryside, which isn’t a such a bad place to be kidnapped to!! She is bemused by him and some of his actions are crazy, however, she’s annoyed how she melts every time he kisses or touches her. He is intense, bossy and rich enough to do what he wants but along the way he shows her a gentler side. They tease each other and I loved her ‘old man’ comments and how he proves her wrong. He’s amused by her refusal to swear and I laughed so much at him trying to trick her into saying something and her replies.
The baking regularly leads to them exploring each other when she can’t resist him any longer. The author adds a little suspense and danger to make them both realise what they mean to each other. Has he messed with the wrong girl? What will she do to prove to him their feelings are true? It was lovely how he’s always got her best interests at heart and just wants to make her happy.
Melanie always excels with her epilogues but her bonus one for this one is fantastic so don’t forget to download it because Dante shows what a swoon worthy guy he really is.
