This is my first Melanie Moreland read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This grumpy/sunshine trope was an entertaining read.

Aldo is the second in command at his best friend's casino. He is an earnest guy who does not smile. The businesses are very successful, and Aldo conducts interviews for new hires. In walks a beautiful lady, Violet, who seems different to all the others. Aldo has never had time for a romantic relationship.

Violet is sassy but also very kind. She is new to the area, and looking to start fresh. The chemistry she feels when she sees Aldo is unexpected.

I love a morally grey hero. Seems like a contradiction in terms, right? And maybe Aldo is a shade or two darker than grey, but darned if he's not sexy as sin while pushing the limits. He's fierce in his work and equally fierce when it comes to taking care of Violet. There's just something about those guys who know from the minute they see the one, even when they don't realize that they know. I love that Violet has the sass and strength to stand up to Aldo when necessary and be willing to walk that grey line with him. Maybe not in actions, but she's not squeamish either.

I fully expected to enjoy this one - it was written by Melanie Moreland, after all - and I did. It didn't take long for me to be completely smitten with Aldo, and Violet is a terrific heroine. The story has some grit, but we also get to see Aldo's softer side, as well as a bit of a sense of humor. I can't wait to see what's in store for Roman in the second part of the duet!
And since I fell so totally for Aldo when I read the book, I decided I needed a second dose by way of the audiobook. John Lane and Maxine Mitchell are both terrific narrators. So, when they're on the same book, you know it's gonna be good. So much the better when they're combined with a book by Melanie Moreland. I love Aldo's attitude, and John Lane brings that out wonderfully, and Maxine Mitchell gives us all of Violet's sass. Honestly, whether you prefer to read or listen, you can't go wrong with this one, and if you're like me, you can enjoy both!

Book 1 in a new duet from Melanie, and I loved it, a romantic suspense with morally grey characters, men who thought they had everything until that one woman walks into their life and turns their world upside down.....

Roman owns the renown casino and hotel in Niagara Falls, The Maple, and Aldo is of course his right hand man and his protector. Roman and his brother Luca are the only sons of an underground boss, with Aldo being Roman's childhood friend, all 3 have grown up together. Roman owns the renown casino and hotel in Niagara Falls, The Maple, and Aldo is of course his right hand man and his protector. Having grown up together they are very much alike, loyal and protective, never sharing more than one night with a woman, both large and strong and extremely handsome. Aldo thought he had everything he ever wanted until he started interviewing for new vacancies at The Maple and meets Violet.....

Violet is looking for a new start, a new life, having just walked away from her own that had been ripped out from under her. She heard talk of The Maple hiring, paying good wages and treating their employees right, and so sets out to see if she might get hired. But she is shocked by how attracted to Aldo she is, she is not a small woman and he dwarfs her, but she can fantasize, after all he would be her boss and he is definitely off limits.

These two were brilliant together, I loved their chemistry, how Violet was not afraid of Aldo (or Roman either) and would stand up to them. She was a worker, loving her new job, and Aldo just couldn't keep away from her, couldn't resist the pull to her, and was annoyed at himself for giving in so much, knowing he could never have a woman like Violet with everything he does in his world. But Violet saw through all the violence and saw the man underneath, the real Aldo, while he was there for her in every way. Things get very hot and steamy between them when the lines between boss and employee blur.....

A fabulous first book in this duet, love Melanie's darker crime reads and the morally grey characters, can't wait to read the next book about Roman.

Whoa! This was completely unexpected in the best of ways!
This story was page turner, amazing characters that made you laugh, gasp and swoon.
Aldo is that big bear of a man. Scary on paper but a soft cinnamon roll when it comes to the heroine. Loyalty is his strongest trait and one I can get behind.
Vi - oh she is my girl crush. I love a lead who is strong but not stubborn. Who calls it like she sees it. And she sees that he falls first just needs to find a way to use his words.

Aldo by Melanie Moreland is book one of the Men Of The Falls duet. A fabulous story about the unexpected romance between Aldo and Violet Nelson. This is such a change from this author and I absolutely loved it. Aldo Ricci and Roman Costas are two morally grey heroes who you will quickly fall for, just as they fall for the women who turn out to be perfect for them.

Aldo’s parents worked for Roman’s father so the pair became best friends. Now Roman and his brother Luca run the family business. Roman owns The Maple hotel and casino overlooking the Niagara Falls and Aldo is his right hand man and enforcer. This pair are very similar due to their experiences growing up. Both are intense, intimidating and have no room in their lives for a relationship. One day while reviewing applications for new employees, Aldo is taken by Violet’s photo and little does he know she is about to turn his world upside down. Violet left Toronto after her ex boyfriend took everything and ran off with her best friend. Hearing about The Maple she applies as has experience waitressing. Although down on her luck, she is a proud, stubborn and independent woman willing to work hard to get back on her feet. She is shocked at her attraction to Aldo at the interview and even though she saw desire in his eyes, knows he is off limits as one of the managers. She finds him intriguing, serious and huge but she’s not afraid of him or intimidated so she calls him big man !!
When Roman meets her, she surprises him by making them both laugh. Both men like how intelligent, feisty and funny she is. Aldo never mixes business with pleasure but Roman teases him about liking her. Aldo thinks she will be a complication and tries to avoid her, especially as she riles him and no one else dares speak to him like she does. She knows they into illegal activities as syndicate men but still loves teasing them. He is shocked how much he cares about her and it was great to see a different side to him as he laughs and smiles around her. It was funny when he suddenly felt jealousy for the first time.
Roman takes to her so easily and their friendship reveals another side to him. He enjoys watching Aldo fall and gives good advice to Violet over how to handle him because he sees early on they are perfect for each other and exactly what the other needs. Both men are surprised by events concerning Roman’s brother Luca as his chaperoning assignment takes an interesting twist.
Violet has fun challenging him but realises however much she loves him, will he ever love her back? Could she still work there and have to see him every day? Aldo needs to figure it out his feelings as she become more than he expected. He knows his world is not a place for her and she’d be in danger. He’s unsure how much he is the capable of giving her but she has become more than just an employee. When he realises she was made for him, will he let her change his life and make him a better man?
This was a fantastic introduction to the Men Of The Falls. Aldo and Roman are such interesting characters, however, Violet is a force to be reckoned with. She made me laugh with some of her antics and how she frustrated Aldo. It is always an entertaining read when a powerful man falls even though they fight it all the way - now I can’t wait for Roman’s book,
