A Simple Life
- eBook
Synopsis
John Elliott is a busy man. He runs his farm and his business, keeping to himself, with no time for anything else in his life.
Quinn Harper is a single mother, looking for a fresh start. The small town she picked seemed perfect—until her first run-in with John.
They strike sparks of the wrong kind and insist that keeping their distance is for the best.
Yet, despite his growly nature and curt tone, he is sweet to her daughter.
And he finds himself looking for reasons to be in Quinn’s company.
Do things that make them both smile. Make him feel happy.
Sparks sizzle into a low, banked fire.
And then an inferno erupts.
Neither wanted it.
But now, they can’t live without it.

After John's ex used him and broke his heart and his trust, he closed himself off to everyone but his sister, brother-in-law and nephew, and one wonderful woman Thelma, who's now gone. And now this new woman wants to come in and open a restaurant in the space where his beloved Thelma's diner used to be?! Not on his watch. But somehow, Quinn and her daughter have snuck past his walls and into the heart he thought was frozen. He'll do everything he can to convince them they're a family now, and they're safe from anyone who wants to hurt them.
Ahhh my heart! Quinn, Abby and John's story broke my heart but put it back together by the end. Quinn and Abby had such a horrible life with Quinn's ex, and they were both just looking for some peace, a life where they were free to be joyful, free to be themselves. Then Farmer John came to them and healed their broken hearts, and his own, showing his grump was just a facade. I knew that even though John was so grumpy with Quinn in the beginning, that there was no way he'd be able to withstand Abby's adorableness, or Quinn's sunshine. I'm not sure if this is the start of a series, but I sure hope so, because I would love to read more about them.

romance between John Elliott and Quinn Harper. This is a real feel good story that will fill your heart with hope and leave you smiling. A charming tale about a farmer who wants a simple life and ends up getting a simple love from a single mum and her adorable daughter. John is introverted and keeps to himself on his farm in the small town of Richton. He loves his life working outside, growing his crops and building up his farm. He also helps other people when needed and family always comes first, especially his nephew Cody. Quinn had an awful marriage and the only good thing to come out of it is Abby, her daughter, who is her number one priority. They have moved for a better life, one free form restrictions and control. One where Abby can at last be a child and enjoy life. Quinn’s best friend told her about an old diner being empty and also helped her find a house to rent.
A series of events leads these two to cross paths. Her first impression of him is a kind and helpful man but then sparks fly every time they meet. Misunderstandings and jumping to conclusions doesn’t help his cause!! It is funny how he ends up saving her a couple of times but still puts his foot in his mouth. There is lots banter between them and she’s got a great line in sarcasm. He has never experienced the desire and longing he has for her and is confused as their connection becomes intense. He takes it out on her and manages to insult her as she always catches him off guard. I laughed when Quinn just smiles sweetly every time he storms off.
I loved how John immediately connects with Abby and often the only time he smiles is when he’s with her. Abby calls him Farmer John and feels safe with him right from the start, their relationship is so enchanting that I couldn’t wait for their scenes together. The swing, tractor rides, cake sharing, teaching her about farming and naughty words!! It takes a ‘Pumpkin’ to smash down his walls and lets us see the real man he is underneath.
John and Quinn both had tragic childhoods so more in common than they first realised. He liked her from the start but his ex really did a job on his trust and thoughts about being in a relationship again. Can they both move forward and put the past behind them. Enjoy the happiness they have found with each other and build the family they have both always wanted.
His sister Laura and her husband Bob were great secondary characters. His nephew Cody was lovely young man and it was sweet how kind and thoughtful his Uncle J is to him. As they turn from friends to lovers, he shows her how life should be and she works on his grumpiness. A fantastic ending with Abby stealing the show and as usual a couple of great epilogues. A heartfelt story about a couple who have experienced bad relationships, find love and heal together.

I enjoy Melanie Moreland's stories; there's just something about a small-town romance. Do you like stories set in a small town? Would you like to live in one?

A single mom and cute little girl melt the heart of a grumpy farmer.
This book was very low on the angst scale but very high on the sweet and loveable scale!
