" This world that Kate L. Mary created is interesting and I promise you won't stop reading until the end."
United Indie Book Blog
"A powerful novel that hits the ground running, "Tribe of Daughters" has an interesting premise that pulls the reader in from the very first page. It meshes multiple ideas including a post-apocalyptic dystopia with romance as well as societal issues and sexism. The author weaves them together well so that they do not detract from each other and ultimately build upon the overall story. Initially, it is hard to tell if the story is set in the past or the future, but the author does a nice job at explaining the world through the story

"Never have I read a book like Tribe of Daughters by Kate L. Mary. Everything about this science fiction novel -- the possibilities, the plot, the characters, the physical, mental, sexual and cultural concepts, and the writing style fired my imagination and compelled me to keep reading page after page until the book was finished. An electrifying read, and that's saying something from a person who isn't all that into dystopian science fiction. There is so much more I could say about Tribe of Daughters but doing so would spoil readers'

In this village, women are not the weaker sex.

From an award-winning author comes a post-apocalyptic dystopian story about power, fear, and love...

Nearly a century after a plague ravaged civilization, a secluded matriarchal society thrives in the mountains. In this village there are no brothers, no fathers, no sons. In this village men exist only to serve the women, and boys have no mothers. In this village men do as they are told and defiance is severely punished.

This is the only life Wilderness has ever known, but when Jameson is brought in from the outside to be her husband, everything she thought she knew about strength and love is tested. As they struggle to find their place in the village, they suddenly find themselves face to face with outsiders who threaten to destroy everything they love, and it doesn't take long to realize that they will have to work together, men and women alike, if they want to survive.

Tribe of Daughters is marvelous, unique, emotionally moving, amazing, and fascinating, reviewers enthuse, calling author Kate L. Mary a master of world-building. “Everything about this science fiction novel – the possibilities, the plot, the characters, the physical, mental, sexual and cultural concepts, and the writing style fired my imagination and compelled me to keep reading page after page until the book was finished,” says Viga Boland for Readers' Favorite.

Behind the book

The idea for this story came to me after learning about the Mosuo people, who are believed to be China’s last matrilineal society. I learned about this group after hearing references to their culture twice in a short period of time, once while listening to an audiobook and a second time while watching TV. After the second time, I decided to look them up, and reading about their culture gave me an idea, which led to this book. While my group is very different from the Mosuo, it was the concept of “walking marriages,” as well as the role the men play in their culture—according to some, men have no responsibility in Mosuo society and no jobs, but instead rest all day and conserve their strength for nighttime visits—that really inspired me to create this world. No, they do not capture men and drag them to their village, or punish them—as far as I know. That part of the story was my idea completely and in no way reflects the values of the Mosuo people.
