^{What the in God's holy hell am I doing?}

^{I shouldn't be doing this.  I should be back home helping mom move into her house, away from her asshole husband. She told me to go have a nice night with my friends, though. Get out a bit and find a life instead of wallowing in the wake of my dad's death. I know she's right.  It's been two years now, but he was the only one who knew. He said it was alright to be different.  That it didn't matter and that he loved me anyway. He'd found porn mags in my room six months earlier. Gay porn mags. He didn't bat an eye. Just said, don't tell your mother till I've talked to her, son.}

^{He never did.}

^{Screw cancer.}

^{I fidget in the shadow by a street lamp, trying to keep the cold out of my bones and build up the courage to go in Blades Den. It's the only place round here for miles that's happy to house gay's. I've never been in, never even got this close. I just jack off to pictures, some online stuff, too, and think about what I want rather than the girl’s mom keeps bringing back from church.}

^{I pull my lightweight Parka tighter around me, shrugging the neck together. Pathetic. It took me an hour and a half to get here and now I'm too timid to even go in. My jeans are soaked, making my unmanly frame look even more dishevelled, and now I've got to admit defeat and drive all the way home with nothing but piss wet jeans and - I sneeze - a goddamned cold.}

^{“You gonna stand out here all night?”}

^{The voice in the gloom makes me jump, eyes flashing round to wherever it came from. A man slowly stalks out of it, cigarette in one hand and a bottle of whiskey in the other. He's big. Slightly spiked hair. And his drenched black suit, and black shirt, make him appear sinister in this light. I look away, nervous of his presence.}

^{“I'm… . I'm waiting for someone.”}

^{“You been waiting for an hour, kid. Guess he's not coming.” He looks me over, not the slightest flinch under the rain and wind that's freezing my body. “I'm gonna drown some more sorrows. Why don't you come help me drown them?”}

^{My feet sidestep, arms clasped around me and eyes flicking to Blades, as he walks towards it. He turns back, a small smirk on his face at my hesitation. “Or you could stay out here and freeze. The name's Craven by the way.”}

^{I watch the bottle go to his lips, and feel something stir in my jeans because of the way he purposefully swallows part of the neck. He winks and keeps backing away from me, no interest in the cars swerving around him. “Come on, kid. What do you have to lose?”}

^Kid.

^{The term makes me frown and look at the building behind him. I'm not a kid. Twenty one is far from a kid. Although, I'm damn well acting like one. My frown deepens, part of me wishing I had a set of balls like this guy seems to have. He chuckles in the distance and flips a middle finger to a car honking at him, then stumbles over the barrier between lanes.}

^{“FUCK HER!” He bellows. Her?}

^{Another car zips by, barely missing him this time, and he spins into another oncoming parade of traffic. More drink goes down his neck, fingers flipping fingers at everything that's anywhere near him. I'm running over to him before I've thought it through, grabbing him by the arm to lead him safely to the sidewalk. “Fuck her,” he mutters again. “Goddamned bitch.”}
