‘maybe she was watching us and smiling at the crop of gardeners she’d grown’
My dog absolutely hated this book because I planned on taking a quick sneak peek at chapter one before bed and proceeded to stay up half the night because I couldn’t put it down and I’m not the only one to love it. It won the Minotaur Books/Mystery Writers of America First Crime Novel competition in 2023. I can’t wait to see what she grows next!

An interesting trip back to 1991 and the story that spawned the famed CW tv show. I was curious to find out how the television show compared to the original when I picked this up. The similarities are there in the storyline, some of the names have been thrown in a blender and mixed up (ie Vicki Bennet) and none of the actors were cast because they met the description of their literary versions. Yet I wasn’t disappointed. The book stood on it’s own and is a very good start to the series.
‘Can’t a girl have an existential crisis without an audience?’
I’ve loved all of the Secure One books but this one takes it to a whole other level and I didn’t want it to end! It also sends us on a new journey now that the team has put an end to the sex and drug trafficking that started the series. Now they’re taking on mobsters...and it looks like that particular animal may already be entrenched in their ranks as the author set up the storyline for book five. Bonus points for this one because we got an update on Elliot and Jolene from the Harlequin online read Codename: Santa!
My new favorite sleuth!
She’s a washed up actress best known for playing butt kicking Pastor Fran without a penny to her name or a job on the horizon but she’s deliciously delusional. In her reality she’s still the STAR...when she receives a post card from her...not so ex husband...she thinks he’s ready to reconcile, only to find out that’s not the case and then murder strikes. And it has to be about her, right? It’s a laugh out loud romp!

Victorian Tea? Or murder...
Christmas time in Charleston sounds like a magical time of the year, until you throw in a dead body or two and a house full of suspects! With Riley away for the holidays, Theodosia is up to her ears in holiday tea parties and pooches...while dodging bullets and trying to solve this latest Tea Shop Mystery. As always, this author made me long for Charleston and a scone or two!

‘Ava took a good, long look at her town.’
In this author’s third romantic suspense of the year for Harlequin the town of Ambrosia Fall’s is celebrating their annual apple festival and in the process driving local writer Zach crazy much to the amusement of his best gal pal, Ava...aka the Sparrow. When the festival is besieged by ‘accidents’ and odd things start happening around her bakery Ava is afraid her past has caught up with her. Before she can make a run for it Zach and his preteen daughter are pulled into the intrigue and Ava has to take a stand and protect the people and the town she’s grown to love. This author keeps getting better and better. I can’t wait to see what she has up her sleeve next!
‘We all came seeking the light, and all they found was...darkness.’
Team Blackbird lands in Paris in this outing featuring an old face from the previous two installments, Daniel, a Scottish policeman now a full fledged Krewe member who has only recently come into his ‘powers’ of seeing the dead and an American agent newly assigned to the team that hasn’t met any of them yet. I enjoyed the story even though we were repeatedly subjected to the Bathory legend over and over again and once again the whole ghostly point of the team seemed to be downplayed with only minor interactions with two ghosts leading up to the big finale.

So much going on in this novel
I wanted to love this book but I didn’t quite get there. The characters and premise were amazing but it seemed like there was so much going on that I was distracted by wanting more of the supporting characters stories over Cal and Charlotte. Maybell and Becker...Alden and Harper. Audrey and Derek. Even Izzie and Taggart. And definitely the mysterious Rowan!

‘I can’t promise anything.’
A highly suspenseful, satisfying stand alone where the elements are as much of a danger as the bad guys.

Agatha’s got her hands full with not one but three cases in her latest outing not to mention her relationship is on the rocks and Charles is upping his game hoping to finally ensnare her. When her neighbor is murdered, then her and Toni are almost abducted, she has to determine if the cases both revolve around an antique clock she purchased at an auction or if it was just a strange coincidence. Mix in a live dead guy and an almost four hundred year old case and you’ve got a humdinger of a book from start to finish. Amazing as always!
