“Ms. Radcliffe? It’s Angela, the private investigator you hired to find your husband?”
“Yes, hi. Did you find him already?”
“I did! So, let me tell you. I was able to track his movements after you kicked him out. Turns out he was let go by the college for an inappropriate relationship with a student. Sorry about that.”
“He was? I mean, I knew about his cheating with a girl from the school, but she was one of his students?”
“Yes. They gave him the option to end the relationship, but he wouldn’t. When he was let go, the girl broke things off with him and kicked him out of her apartment.”
“Oh?”
“Yes. It gets even more interesting from there. Turns out she wasn’t the only one he was seeing. He just managed to move to another girl’s apartment across town. A Lindsay Travers. I spoke to her; she’s pretty young and naïve. He claimed he was divorced and that you got him fired.”
“He what!” Laura fumed.
“Do you need me to repeat?” Angela asked, clearly unsure how to read Laura’s reaction.
“No, I’m just pissed off.”
“I can imagine. Anyway, he’s been sending out new applications for work to various universities around the area. I’m texting you the address he’s staying at, so you can get your lawyer to send the divorce papers to him as soon as possible.”
“Okay, great. Thank you so much, Angela. What do I owe you?”
“It only took me a total of two hours to actually track him down. The computer did most of the work.” She chuckled.
“No expenses?”
“Not at this time.”
“Okay, great. I’ll transfer you the money if that works for you?”
“It does indeed.” Angela gave her the banking address to send it to and waited as Laura made the transfer. “I’ve got it. Let me know if you need me again. I appreciate the business.”
“Thanks, Angela. I will definitely let you know.” Laura hung up. She felt overwhelmed by disgust for her husband’s actions. She couldn’t believe the nerve of the man. He’d been cheating on her with not only one nineteen-year-old, but two!
She was so pissed off, she couldn’t even think about going back to writing, so she saved her work and headed downstairs to find something to calm her nerves.
