Behind the book

Author Notes may contain spoilers!

The seeds of Lunar Lies were first planted in A Fowl Play on Christmas Day, the holiday crossover between Auntie Clem’s Bakery and Reg Rawlins, Psychic Investigator. By providing clues about October’s background and hinting at the mysteries that lay ahead, the novella sets the stage for Reg’s eventual discovery of his secrets in Lunar Lies.

The theme of control is a central aspect of Lunar Lies that I wanted to explore in depth. Jake’s manipulation and control over Reg, both through his magical abilities and his abusive behavior, highlight the complexities of toxic relationships and the challenges of breaking free from them.

Reg’s past with Jake is fraught with manipulation and control, and despite her initial resolve to break away from him, she finds herself drawn back into his web of deceit in Lunar Lies. This aspect of the story reflects the real-life struggles that many individuals face in abusive relationships, where the abuser’s control can be difficult to break free from, even when the victim knows it is harmful.

Exploring werewolf and shapeshifter myths in Lunar Lies was a fascinating aspect of the story that I thoroughly enjoyed researching. The rich history of these supernatural beings in cultures around the world provided a wealth of inspiration and added depth to the supernatural elements of the book.

Examining how these myths have been portrayed and adapted in popular media, from movies like Teen Wolf to book series like Twilight, offered a contemporary lens through which to explore the enduring appeal of shapeshifter lore.

I hope readers will enjoy the blend of myth and imagination in the story and appreciate the rich tapestry of supernatural lore that shapes Reg’s world.

In writing Lunar Lies, I knew that Jake would have to be punished, that karma would come back and bite him. Hopefully, the resolution will leave readers satisfied, knowing that justice has been served in the supernatural world of Reg Rawlins, Psychic Investigator.
