Behind the book

Author’s notes may contain spoilers!

Erin Price cannot be the suspect in every unexpected death or crime around Bald Eagle Falls, so I am always looking for situations in which other members of her social circles might be suspected or involved. This time… it was Willie’s and Vic’s turn.

My husband and I always say it is a bad thing to be friends with Jessica Fletcher in Murder She Wrote — or worse yet, one of her nieces or nephews, and the same applies to Erin Price. Willie is once more under the scrutiny of the Bald Eagle Falls police department.

Topics like prejudice, mental illness, and abuse often enter into my writing. In this book, it is the problem of homelessness, especially in rural areas, where the homeless are even more invisible than ever. There are a number of articles in the Book Club Resources on my website landing page exploring the issue.

Roughly one third of the faces of homelessness in the United States belong to families, typically headed by a young, minority, single mother with two children under the age of six.

U.S. Homelessness Is Not What You Might Think
