Synopsis

This box set collects the novel Becoming Quinn, the story of how Jonathan Quinn went from being a young police officer named Jake Oliver to starting down the road of becoming the best body removal expert in the business of secrets and spies; five short stories—three featuring Quinn, and two featuring his future partner/girlfriend Orlando—that tell tales of their time as apprentices and of Quinn then working on his own; and the novella Night Work, detailing an evening when a single job of cleaning turns into a multiple body affair.

Becoming Quinn

Most careers begin with an interview and a handshake. Others require a little … something more. Meet Jake Oliver. The day will come when he's one of the best cleaners in the business, a man skilled at making bodies disappear. At the moment, however, he’s a twenty-two year old rookie cop, unaware his life is about to change. In a burning barn a body is found—and the fire isn't the cause of death. The detectives working the case have a pretty good idea about what went down. But Officer Oliver thinks it’s something else entirely, and pursues a truth others would prefer remain hidden—others who will go to extreme lengths to keep him quiet.

Lesson Plan

The Assignment

The first rule of being an apprentice: Do what you're told. When Orlando receives her new assignment, she thinks she's in for an easy day. But the simple chauffeur job she assumes she is on, is not so simple, after all.

Just Another Job

Not everyone who gets shot is supposed to be shot. And those who are shot don’t always die right away. It’s not Quinn’s job to kill people, but it is his job to clean them up. Sometimes, though, they’re not quite ready to go.

Night Work

Jonathan Quinn and his team thought they were done for the night. The body they’d been hired to make disappear had been dealt with exactly to the required specifications, so, by all rights, they should have been at the airport, catching their flights home.

But a last minute call puts a crimp into their plans. Another assignment has come up, one that must be dealt with immediately, and will prove considerably more difficult than the last as they are not the only ones who’ve come for the corpse.

An already long night dealing with the dead is just about to get a little longer.
