Synopsis
By 1870 the Old West was beginning to settle down. But only in comparison to the chaos that preceded it – the war with Mexico, the Gold Rush, the mass settlement and homesteading, and above all the Civil War, the emancipation of millions of slaves and the ongoing tangle of Reconstruction. Much of society was in flux, outlaws still roamed the land, and disaster was often just a breath away.
Reverend Mark Barnabas Wingate's job was to try and bring peace to the disorder. As a circuit-riding Methodist preacher in the “Big Valley” of central California, he ministered to folks in five small towns as best he could on his own. He didn't mind working alone – but his superiors did mind. Which is why, without telling him, they'd sent away for a mail-order bride for him!
Said bride was Lydia George, a good Methodist girl from Mississippi whose great dream in life was to get out of the dangerous post-war South. Taught by missionaries, she hopped a train west, eager to start a new life in a new land – and as a minister's wife, no less!
But there were things about Mark that Lydia didn't know, and vice-versa. Both of them had secrets, and both of them were in for a shock when that train reached its destination. And in the confusion that followed, both of them found that miracles can occur in the most unlikely circumstances ...
Religion, race, romance; surprises, schemes and sanctuary - all collide in THE CIRCUIT RIDER'S BRIDE, a Western novel unlike any other.
