Synopsis

A steamy, swoony workplace romantic comedy with a grumpy boss hero determined to save the day and a plucky heroine who is starting to wonder if there might actually be a beating heart just beneath her boss’s sexy vests.

Dominic

I got her fired. Okay, so I’d had a bad day and took it out on a bystander in a pizza shop. But there’s nothing innocent about Ally Morales. She proves that her first day of her new job… in my office… after being hired by my mother.

So maybe her colorful, annoying, inexplicably alluring personality brightens up the magazine’s offices that have felt like a prison for the past year. Maybe I like that she argues with me in front of the editorial staff. And maybe my after-hours fantasies are haunted by those brown eyes and that sharp tongue.

But that doesn’t mean that I’m going to be the next Russo man to take advantage of his position. I might be a second-generation asshole, but I am not my father.

She’s working herself to death at half a dozen dead-end jobs for some secret reason she doesn’t feel like sharing with me. And I’m going to fix it all. Don’t accuse me of caring. She’s nothing more than a puzzle to be solved. If I can get her to quit, I can finally peel away all those layers. Then I can go back to salvaging the family name and forget all about the dancing, beer-slinging brunette.

I just have to say that By a Thread is my favorite of all the books I’ve read by Lucy Score. It has been awhile since I’ve smiled so much throughout a book, but also shed tears. I remember reading snippets of this grumpy grump face on this author’s Facebook feed and feeling intrigued about this unnamed book. I so love a grump who falls in love. Ally and Dominic’s story exceeded all my expectations.

I won’t go into too much detail regarding their story, but just know that Dominic can be a real a$$ and he knows it, but he’s had a tough 18 months since he took over as creative director at his mother’s company and cleaning up a mess left by his father. Seriously he can be such a jerk, but when you get to know him he is absolutely swoon worthy!! As for Ally, she is just plain awesome. She has so much on her plate, I seriously did not know how she was able to survive, but she did with such compassion and determination. She is also one who does not take any crap from anyone and you see that from the very first meet with Dominic.

Their story is not just a rom-com, it also deals with some serious issues that were dealt with amazingly. My heart ached for both Ally and Dominic, they both had so many issues so it was so heartwarming to see how they completed each other.

I absolutely loved this book so much! Ally with her vest fetish (I kind of understand that!), Brownie and the other pups, the banter and nicknames between Ally and Dominic, Dominic’s amazing mom and all the secondary characters and those emails at the end are just the few of the things that made this book one of my favorites of this year. This is definitely a 5-star book and I highly recommend it!

By a Thread is romantic comedy set in New York fashion world and it stands alone with a spectacular HEA.
Ally and Dominic, aka Maleficent and Charming, just became my favorite romantic couple EVER, and there are so many things I absolutely ADORE about this phenomenal story.
I just had the opportunity to revisit this masterpiece in audio; the narration by Sebastian York and Erin Mallon is absolute perfection! They bring Dom and Ally to life, provide a theater-like experience and make you feel like you are inside the story.

Dominic is a brooding, grumpy alpha with the heart of gold, and the more we learn about him and his upbringing, the more we fall in love with him.
Ally is a strong, lovable heroine, whose family obligations have her running full speed in several directions and managing multiple competing priorities.
By a Thread has a multilayered captivating story line that will pull at your heartstrings and make you laugh out loud; the character development and an amazing cast of secondary characters is simply extraordinary.
We first meet Ally and Dominic as he arrives at a pizzeria where Ally is his server. Their epic banter commences at the very beginning of this amazing story and never seizes to entertain.
“Sir, are you here for STD panel results or hemorrhoids?” she shouted in the vicinity of my cell’s microphone.
Once I started reading, I could not put this book down and finished it in one sitting.
Talk about couples goals - #ALOMINIC♥️♥️♥️
By a Thread has it all - steam, swoon, witty banter, love, heartache, laugh out loud moments and the very best cast of characters I’ve read in a long time!!!
It’s a definite must read and a highly recommend from me!

Stunning stand alone!
I’ve already read this girthy emotional powerhouse twice, and it lacks nothing in the re-read. Massively powerful, emotional, sexy and funny as only Lucy Score can bring. And bring it she does. Her best book yet.
Dominic Russo has nothing to be happy or hopeful about. A job he thinks he hates, a mother he thinks he resents, underlings he lives to terrify. Days full of emptiness and meaningless meetings. Until one cold evening when he walks into a grungy pizzeria and goes toe to toe with the plucky Ally Morales. Hanging on by a thread Ally. Ally, who lit...

Until one cold evening when he walks into a grungy pizzeria and goes toe to toe with the plucky Ally Morales. Hanging on by a thread Ally. Ally, who literally has nothing but nerve and guts to sustain her.
And so begins their dance. Not a beautiful waltz, nope. Not even a sensual tango. It’s a down and dirty grind as they spit fire at each other. Never have two people been so right for each other despite all their differences. Never has a love been so hard won. I dare you to read this book and not be moved by Ally and Dom!

Enemies to Lovers and Slow Burn are two of my favorite tropes, and when combined with a grumpy hero... well, HELL. YES. MORE.
Dominic is one of those love to hate grumps that hide a gooey, yummy center. Ally is a take no shit, start none, there'll be none spitfire. And they're an older couple because guess what? People in their 40's fall in love too!

This is a book that wasn't afraid to delve into uncomfortable topics such as dysfunctional family dynamics, sexual assault, and serious illness. Finding a good balance when you are creating a romance is so important! Too much of ...

This is a book that wasn't afraid to delve into uncomfortable topics such as dysfunctional family dynamics, sexual assault, and serious illness. Finding a good balance when you are creating a romance is so important! Too much of these darker subjects can get the reader out of their zone and too little feels like the author is just trying too hard to throw spaghetti on the wall to see what sticks. Ms. Score hit that sweet spot that makes us cry and be thankful for it!
I absolutely love how inclusive and diverse this book was. Can I pack my bags and live in this book?

The steam level of this book is off the damn charts, sooooo be warned... in a good way... because I'm a good friend like that 😈😛

Lucy Score found the perfect balance of romance, inclusivity, and reality with By A Thread and I couldn't get enough of Dominic and Ally!

A resounding five star read!!!
