Drea lives in a perfect world, except for the wall. The fifteen-foot barrier is there to keep her safe, just like the Protectors patrolling her clean and orderly little world. There is no crime, no violence, and no strife, but Drea can feel the wrongness in every perfectly timed aspect of her life, right down to the wristwatch that logs her every movement. All the perfection in the world can’t save her from the all-consuming question—what’s out there? Jerrick hasn’t had the same upbringing as the rest of his age group. None of them had to face losing their parents and being lied to by the Protectors. Jerrick has seen behind the untruths that hold their perfect community together. He knows about the rebellion—and he has a plan. Can he leave behind the only girl that might understand him? O…

I had a great time with this audiobook.  I recently read six of the seven books in Kate L. Mary’s Broken World series and really enjoyed myself.  When I saw that there was another series set in the same world, I knew that I needed to read those books.  Once I started listening, I couldn’t stop and ended up finishing the book in just a couple of days which is pretty fast for me with a book this length.  It is safe to say that I enjoyed this book.

As I mentioned, this book is set in the same world as the Broken World series.  I was happily surprised to find that many of the characters that I had grown to love in the first series were back in this book, just twenty years older.  I think that readers could start with this book without any issues but readers of the earlier series will have so…

Last week, I was listening to the audiobook for The Sound of Broken Glass, book 15 in the Duncan Kincaid/Gemma James Novels series by Deborah Crombie. I think that I may have read a book or two in this series before, but I’m not sure. There is definitely enough backstory included in the book that you are not last as to what the people’s relationships and histories are. As with most mysteries or police procedurals, they are episodic and you can ju…

Leon Mostert lived many lives before he became JC Ryan, the best-selling author of spellbinding archaeological mysteries and action-adventure thriller novels.

Born and bred in Namibia, with Afrikaans as his first language, Leon served in the military for seven years before a crippling back injury forced a change in careers. Returning to university to study law, Leon ran his own private practice for more than 15 years, before moving first to New Zealand in 1997 and to the Gold Coast in 2008 working as an IT project manager.

Living on the Gold Coast and working in Brisbane, it was the commute into the city that finally did it; the same train trip, day in day out for ten years. He knew he had to keep his mind occupied.

“I always wanted to write but never saw myse…

I recently finished The Silent Patient, a psychological suspense/domestic thriller by Alex Michaelides. I would definitely go on to read more by Michaelides. I noticed that there are several one-star reviews at the top of the Amazon page, which is really too bad. The book has over 76,000 ratings with an over 4.5 star average and only 2% one-star reviews and it spent a year on the NYT bestseller list, so don’t get the idea that it isn’t a good book…

This is the first post in which talented authors share some experiences in producing their tales as an audiobook. I’ve been privileged to work with  fabulous folks from all corners, and I hope this small series will encourage fellow authors to engage with a crucial market niche and win new customers. Listeners too may enjoy hearing about how the tale-tellers made their way to and through audio. As I bring one of their stories to your ears, here perhaps are more for your eyes.

Part the First: How It’s Going

This post features two writers who either hired or have me at present (May ’21) on their latest project. I asked certain things in common to all my authors to help set their context. Following that, some questions about their unique journey and opinions.

Dave Ashmore, Taking Care of …

I have been fascinated with reading Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson. It is full of amazing and heartbreaking stories of injustice, with lots of details about the changes in the law over the decades, statistics, and how these changes to the justice system have worked or not worked to the advantage of the poor, marginalized, and disadvantaged.

I was struck within the first few lines of Just Mercy about the similarities between it and Grisham’s A Time for Mercy, which I just finished reading. Both are about young lawyers working on innocenc…

It’s actually a couple of weeks since I read The Atlantis Complex, but the book I read last was pretty much a waste of time, so I am posting a teaser for Atlantis instead.

I have read a couple of other books in Eoin Colfer’s Artemis Fowl series. It is a middle grade fantasy/sci-fi adventure series that is just a lot of fun to read. If you’re…

I am currently reading You Are Not Alone, a psychological thriller by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. Both have at least a couple of other books under their belts, and you can tell. You Are Not Alone is a slow-burn as Shay Miller finds herself pulled deeper and deeper into the plot of the Moore sisters. An innocent bystander, Shay has no idea what …
