Synopsis

I don’t want you. You mean nothing to me. I never loved you. I turned my words into swords. And I cut her down. Shoved the blade in and watched her fall. I said I’d never hurt her and I did. Years later I’m faced with all the little lies, the untruths, the false realities, the damage I inflicted when all I wanted was to indulge in my obsession. Lavender Waters is the princess in the tower. Even her name is the thing fairy tales are made of. I used to be the one who saved her. Over and over again. But I don’t want to save her anymore. I just want to pretend the lies are still the truth. *Little Lies is a 105k standalone new adult romance.

What a page-turner! Hunting has crafted a stellar young adult romance that pulled on my heartstrings in such a way I found Little Lies impossible to put down. Although there’s a large cast of characters, the author has made sure that there is no confusion for the new reader. However, if you haven’t read Pucked or All In series, I can’t recommend either of them enough.

Although there’s a large cast of characters, the author has made sure that there is no confusion for the new reader. Ooh my! There’s a strong possibility you’ll get hooked on the book in the prologue and from there on the build-up of tension is nothing less than mind-blowing. Helena walked me through Lavender Waters and Kodiak Bowman’s past histories and their angst-ridden present story by putting me in their shoes. My empathy for them was ten-fold when I learnt how they felt for each other. The thin line between love and hate becomes so apparent that all I wished for was the truth. But, overly protective actions had sown emotional agony, unknowingly blurring their feelings.

‘And my poor stupid heart breaks all over again.’

Lavender has a beautiful soul. Watching this desperately shy and traumatized child step out of her comfort zone and grow into a fiercely talented woman who gives as much as she gets was a joy in itself. Not only did she teach me a thing or two, but also her twin brother, River. Hopefully, by me nudging the author, we’ll be able to have his story.

‘The only person who can save me from myself is me.’

Gorgeously damaged Kody is mine, ladies! His dilemma or better said, misery meant I was in two minds about his present-day stance. Was punishing the person you’d always protected the way to make things right? No, but eventually his reasonings became clearer as I read on. Both parents, BJ...Lavender’s adorable cousin and his best friend, Maveric have their say sooner or later. Goodness me, her brother, Mav! I need this manwhore’s story like yesterday, too!

‘You can’t keep out what makes your heartbeat in the first place.’

This read destroyed me, put me back together and left an enormous smile on my face. I confess to shedding a tear or a three during sad scenes and the duct tape scenario which isn’t even the tip of the iceberg had me laughing out loud. Revenge is a sweet dish and man, does Lavendar know how to hand it out!

“You and me? We’re toxic together.”

Hunting hit my reading world with a punch. Faultless description of the uni scene, family worries and friendship, she drove home hope when there seemed to be none. I loved, loved, loved meeting up with the hockey crowd again and just blinking well read this novel! It is simply perfect with all its characters’ trials and tribulations. Bravo, Hunting!

This is proof positive for me that I will read and thoroughly enjoy everything written by H. Hunting (Helena Hunting). I have always loved her rom-coms, including the Pucked, All In and Shacking Up series. And I had enjoyed her slightly angsty Cupcakes and Ink series as well. This is a return to the angsty roots, and more dramatic/young adult than her romantic comedies. What is not different? The quality of writing, the stellar plot and character development, and her ability to weave a tale that lures you in and keeps you captivated.

We get to revisit some of our old favorite characters from the Pucked and All-In series, and meet their children, who are growing up and falling in love themselves. So this is a second-generation story with familiar roots to tug extra on our heartstrings. If you haven't read these two series, and you enjoy a great rom-com, they are definitely worth your time. But you don't need to read these first to enjoy Little Lies, and you won't be lost or confused, I promise. Just know, if you do go back to read those, that they are very different, hence the H. Hunting vs. Helena Hunting author credit.

Lavendar Waters and Kodiak Bowman are phenomenal characters with rich backstories and history together. They were friends and confidants, they were interconnected family, they were everything, until they were nothing, and then became everything all over again. As readers, we were put through the wringer right alone with them, and it was such a wonderful journey. Honestly, with this story, the reader's heart is broken and then put back together again. It is worth the journey and the heartbreak.

Excuse me while I wipe this pesky tear...sigh...Lavender is such a beautiful bad@$$ little beast! I love her journey back to Kody so much. I’m so glad she was strong enough not to cave into him & I love how Kody was always trying to protect her. “Her kiss is my grace. Lavender is the keeper of my heart. She’s the only truth that matters.”—we should all be so luck to be this cherished by another.

This book was one of my most anticipated reads for 2020 and I am here to tell you, it did not disappoint!
Let me start by saying that I stay away from New Adult Romance, full stop. But knowing Ms. Hunting's daring willingness to work her writing muscles and try different subgenres, I closed my ears to my inner cranky monologue and trusted her. I am glad I did.

Let me start by saying that I stay away from New Adult Romance, full stop. But knowing Ms. Hunting's daring willingness to work her writing muscles and try different subgenres, I closed my ears to my inner cranky monologue and trusted her. I am glad I did.

Lavender and Kodiak are the offspring of four characters of the Pucked series and its expanded Universe. It is not required that you read all ten books, but I definitely recommend you do, so you can glean as much enjoyment as you can. It is an absolute treat to "visit" with beloved characters!

Some people find the people they're meant to be with when they still have their baby teeth and that's a fact. This book deals with such a couple, however, there is a lot and I do mean a LOT to overcome for them to be able to be together. Lavender and Kodiak are written in the stars.

Ms. Hunting's raw and honest portrayal of anxiety and PTSD is the best I have read in the romance genre. More than a romance, this book goes beyond a HEA and shows us the triumph over adversity, and gives us a reminder that we are own our heroes. That we can overcome others' expectations and opinions of us (no matter how well-intentioned) and we can stand on our own two feet.

This book would be successful no matter the year it had been released, but in 2020, it has resonated in every corner of romancelandia. Little Lies is the book 2020 didn't know it needed. It is absolute perfection!

Five infinite stars to Little Lies!
