The Adonis’s genuine, sexy smile eased the self-consciousness floating through Summer. Was she actually doing this? Was she really approaching a stranger in a bar for a night of sex? Adonis leaned back, the dark red leather of their booth created a flawless background for his impressive frame. His dark navy-blue suit showcased his broad shoulders and muscular chest. Oh, how she longed to run her hands over his pecs and abs. She couldn’t drag her eyes away. Not even realizing he was watching helped. Summer gulped her drink.
“So, Sunshine, am I permitted to know your name?” Summer opened her mouth to tell him, but it seemed more exciting, more salacious to say no and not exchange personal information.
“Of course. Although, maybe there’s excitement in mystery?” This would be a lot smoother if her cheeks weren’t so warm.
“I believe you might be right.” His smile turned positively indecent.
“I shall call you Sunshine, and what will you call me?” The Adonis leaned forward just to the edge of Summer’s personal space. Her body responded to his proximity and it was all Summer could not to lean in and kiss him.
“Ken Doll.” She nearly said Adonis, but that was just too much. He raised an eyebrow in question. “As in Barbie’s Ken.”
His laugh was warm and hearty. “A plastic doll that does not move and is anatomically incomplete?”
Summer spluttered on her drink and sat back, cringing. “More the dark good looks and ability to be a good companion.”
“Good save.”
“Thank you, I thought so too.” Summer giggled. Signaling the server for fresh drinks. Flirting badly was thirsty work.
“Sunshine, more than two drinks and I will merely escort you back to your room and say goodnight.” When the server approached them, he ordered another drink and a jug of iced water. A sensation of security unfurled within her, calming her nerves. Which, considering she was picking up a strange man in a bar, was odd. “Sunshine, what would you like for dinner?”
Summer ordered steak and baked potato. It was about the only thing on the menu that didn’t contain garlic and onions. When Kane ordered the same, Summer didn’t know whether to lean into him and purr or run away. Her previous lovers couldn’t really be classed as such, they were merely more single male friends who were convenient.
“Are you going to tell me about you?” Her sexy Adonis’ eyes swept her face, resting briefly on her mouth.
“Depends what you want to know.” She was getting into the anonymous thing.
“Simple things like favorite color or movie, maybe.” His eyes held a hidden wariness, and Summer sensed there was a limit to the secrecy he could allow.
“How about our second favorites? Color red. What’s yours and your second favorite film?”
“Second favorite, ok, I can do that.” The weariness dropped from his eyes, replaced by smoldering heat that promised the night would be anything but uneventful.
“There’s no wife, girlfriend or significant other back home or anywhere, is there?” A sudden sense of dread filled Summer. She could not be party cheating, even for this man.
“No, no one waiting.” A pained expression darkened his handsome face. He lifted his glass, draining the last of his whiskey.
Summer wanted to kick herself. She opened her mouth to ask but couldn’t form the words. A wish she could soothe his anguish filled Summer. Her sexy Adonis recovered quickly and an uncontrollable wish to for him to find lifelong love and happiness, settled into her heart. He tipped his head in her direction, returning her question Summer shook her head.
