Chapter 1
A seventeen inch tall fluted cut crystal vase showcased two dozen long stem Red Intuition roses. Karan picked up the vase and looked at the bottom of it. There was a gold and blue sticker that validated its authenticity…the finest Czech crystal money could buy. She smiled. Immediately she knew who’d sent them. After setting the vase back on the credenza, she opened the small white envelope. A simple message was scrawled across the blank card in an all too familiar handwriting. Break a leg, beautiful. Karan sighed as she replaced the card on the holder sticking out of the roses. She stuck her nose into the flowers and inhaled deeply, the heady fragrance overpowering her senses. Bart. She smiled. It had become a habit…seeing flowers from Bart in her hotel room at the different speaking events. Karan was thankful for the resurrection of her friendship with Bart Carrington and even more so that the catalyst for this renewal was the second chance reconnection to his children, Chase and Charisse. After Bart’s daughter, Charisse, had a near fatal accident, he vowed to put the past behind him. It wasn’t an easy task for him to admit his faults or for him to see what he’d missed all these years. Karan’s sheer, relentless determination to push his family together and Bart’s openness to it all allowed his family to heal. For that Karan was grateful. Bart began flirting with Karan more and more. They’d go on dates, be at each other’s apartments for dinner, show up at Mark’s & Charisse’s home…it seemed they were inseparable. Yet, even though they were together a lot, they were still light years away from each other. Relationships, Karan decided, just were not Bart’s cup of tea leaves. After his wife died, Bart had pretty much given up on everything except work. He’d changed his name and had begun speaking everywhere he could: putting on personal seminars with different civic organizations in the area, schools, colleges, even cruise ships. He was in high demand. It allowed him to forget the pain he’d still not dealt with…the pain of losing Clarice. Karan walked over to where the roses sat. She touched the petals of the delicate flowers. They were simply beautiful: a brilliant red with lighter stripes and flecks, a heady fragrance, and her most favorite flower in whatever color. A sharp knock on the door brought Karan back to reality. She turned and walked the few steps and opened it to find Chase and Darla standing before her. “Hey, you two. What’s going on? Everything with tonight set?” Karan inquired. Chase ushered Darla into the room and followed, closing the door behind him. “Man, those are gorgeous,” Chase eyed the flowers in front of him. “Dad?” Karan blushed, smiled, and nodded her head. “Why does it bother you that he sends you flowers? Each time you receive them it seems to send you into orbit. Can’t you just breathe and accept the fact that someone likes you, Karan?” Darla asked after hugging her boss and best friend. “It’s foreign…foreign water to both of us. I’m not used to being pampered the way Bart pampers me.” “I’d say you have to get over it. You and Dad have been friends for a long time.” “We have. He and your mom were my mentors from the beginning. I respect him so much,” Karan admitted. “I think you need to do more than just respect him. That man is head over heels in love with you and I’m going to do a romance card reading to prove my point,” Darla stated confidently. Karan knew Darla was right. Bart was falling hard and way too quickly for her liking. There was the big age difference to consider as well. She was only a few years older than his children, which made him nearly twenty years her senior. Darla sat down on the floor and urged Chase and Karan to sit on the couch. She reached in her purse and took out the most beautiful oracle card deck Karan had ever seen. “Where did you get these? They’re simply gorgeous!” Karan remarked. “It’s a new deck, new artist. They’re called Romance Angel Oracle cards by Zen Williamson. She’s amazing. I just found out about her work when I was browsing the web. I think we need to set up a meeting with you two…maybe even a dual speaking engagement on a cruise.” Darla’s confidence in card reading had skyrocketed since her marriage to Chase. He was the best thing that had ever happened to her. He understood her special abilities and she his, making for a perfect marriage. The cards were shuffled and cut by Karan then shuffled again. Darla began drawing cards, but then stopped. “What’s wrong?” Karan asked. “Open the sliding glass door and light the candles, please. Too many energies in here from past guests that have stayed in this room. There are too many voices I’m hearing and I just want to focus on you…and Bart, of course.” Karan chuckled and did as Darla commanded. That girl! She sounds just like me! Karan sat back down by Chase. She noticed Darla had one hand on the bottom of the deck of cards, and one on top. Her eyes were closed. After shuffling the cards again Darla counted out seven cards. She placed three cards to the left in a pyramid design…one on top, two underneath. The other four she placed side by side under the base of the pyramid. Darla started with the far right card and flipped it over. It revealed a beautiful angel dressed in a soft, flowing mint green gown, her wings were gossamer. There were birds and flowers framing her. “This card says it all. New love. There is someone who has come into your life who is here to stay. Someone who is not a push over but knows exactly who he wants in his life. This person has totally stirred up your romantic feelings down to the soul level.” The next card that was turned over was that of an archer holding Cupid’s bow, poised and ready to strike. “See…look, Karan….just in the first two cards. Here, this one is conveying that you are ready to receive that love arrow from this new interest. Once it hits you, you will never be the same. “Card number 3 shows you smelling the flowers…and how appropriate is that?” Darla nodded toward the vase of roses. “You are ready, ripe for picking. Just like the flowers attract bees, you, at this moment are attracting your happy ever after. Immerse yourself in this experience to glean the full joy of what you are being given. “This embracing couple indicates that you need to clearly come to terms with what you want. Do you want to have that special someone to cherish you every day? Do you want to have the love of one man? Set your intentions on this…and so help me if you screw this up, Karan, you deserve whatever gargoyle comes across your path!” Chase couldn’t handle any more of this reading. He walked out to the patio after getting a bottle of water from the kitchenette. He could feel the daggers his lovely wife was staring into his back, but he continued anyway. Darla looked at Karan. She put her hand on the right card of the three card pyramid. “This is the ‘what’s happening now’ card…as if the others didn’t speak loudly enough to that topic.” Karan shifted on the couch to better see the card Darla was about to flip. Another beautiful couple was printed on this card. The man standing behind the auburn hair of the angel in front of him. He was placing a tender kiss on the sweet spot of her neck. “This indicates that you two have known each other in a different life.” Darla sat back and looked directly at Karan. “That’s why you are so drawn to one another. Bart may just be your twin flame, Karan. That’s something you really have to consider.” The left leg of the pyramid revealed a card showing a party. Angels dancing, eating, and celebrating. “See? See what I’m saying? Look at this,” Darla said as she picked up the card and forced it under Karan’s nose. “I understand, Darla. I really do. I’m anxious to see the meaning of this card and the future card.” “This card is telling you to enjoy this process of getting to know each other. It’s telling you to have fun, to learn all you can learn about one another because a time is coming soon when that season will be over. Although we never stop learning about one another, the time is coming where the work you both will do together will meld with your desire to know each other.” Darla turned the final future card over only to find there was a card stuck to it. The top card showed two angels gazing into each other’s face. It indicated Divine timing was taking place and there was nothing Karan or anyone else could do to stop this process with Bart now that it was in motion. The final card, the future card showed a happy couple dressed in wedding clothes. Karan covered her mouth and giggled. “Darla, do you really think this is where we’re headed?” “Karan, you doubt the cards? Shame on you! You live your life by the Guides. Have faith that they are right beside you now. Stop doubting and questioning. Accept this wonderful message with open arms and embrace it. “Men like Bart Carrington come along only once in a lifetime.”
