Synopsis

Sarah Black was assaulted by a rejected boyfriend. When she discovered she was pregnant, her father, Casper sold their home, and most of their possessions and then bought a place in a wagon train headed for California to protect her from the gossipy townspeople, despite having a terminal illness.
To her dismay, a narrow minded preacher from their town joined the train. When he found she was with child, he turned all of his venom on her, refusing to listen to the reasons for the pregnancy. His vile accusations caused their fellow travelers to shun them.
After several breakdowns and an accident in a river, they were accused of causing a curse against the train and asked to leave.
Seth Carson had grown to like both Sarah and Casper and decided to guide them instead of leaving them to fend for themselves, especially with Casper's worsening illness.
The story follows the kidnapping of her by her assailant, who had begun them, the death of her father and the birth of her son. Seeing herself as a fallen woman, Sarah doesn't understand how any man could marry her now.
Seth doesn't share this viewpoint.
This is a clean, historic western romance.
