COMMERCIAL FISHING WHARF
Stjørdal, Norway

THE FISHERMAN STOOD on the deck of his boat, untangling nets, getting ready for the next day’s catch. He’d brought in a good haul of cod and would take some home for dinner.

Humming to himself, he heard, rather than saw, a motorboat rush past the wharf. Without conscious thought, he braced himself for the effects of the speedboat’s wake.
The roll hit and his boat rose up as the wave passed underneath.

CRACK!

A familiar sound startled him and he turned in its direction.

CRACK! CRACK!

A searing pain radiated across his chest. He looked down. Blood was flowing from two wounds close to his heart.

CRACK!

The weapon fired again and a bullet struck his shoulder, spinning him around. He fell to his knees.

He brought his hands to his chest trying to stem the flow of blood that was pouring from the injuries inflicted by the unknown sniper. 

As if in a dream, he heard the sound of men calling his name and feet pounding across the dock, racing to his side.
His eyes rolled back as everything around him began to fade away. And, just before he passed out, he whispered one word, 

“Katy…”
