Synopsis

A new translation of the ancient Irish epic.

Often described as Ireland's greatest epic, Táin Bó Cúailgne has been part of Irish culture for over a millennium, telling the tale of the battles between Ulster and the other provinces over ownership of a magical bull. The Queen and King of Connacht, Medb and Ailill, argue over which of them has more possessions, and who is, therefore, in control of the marriage. When Medb realizes she is Ailill's match, save only for one magnificent bull, she sets out to acquire its equal. When her offer to borrow the Brown Bull of Cúailgne is rebuffed, she raises an army to take it by force but finds her efforts thwarted by a single warrior, the hero Cu Chulainn. Morgan Daimler presents a new translation of the Irish epic which takes a more literal approach to rendering the story in English. This new version offers readers a more immersive experience into the famous tale of Cu Chulainn fighting to defend Ulster by keeping the English language material closer to the original Irish. The story is presented in a dual language format, with both the original text and translation.
