All Slocum wanted in Charlotte’s Town was a little rest. But local ranchers are mysteriously disappearing…or being murdered. Thornton Real Estate ends up owning their land, and the sheriff doesn’t do a thing about it.
Myrtle Gilligan, publisher of the Charlotte’s Town Beacon, wants to put Jobe Thornton and his sheriff-for-hire out of business, but her evidence is weak. So she needs help to prove that it’s not nice to kill someone for their land—especially when John Slocum’s around to demand payment in blood…
