My Shadow

My heart pumps ice cold blood through my veins,

As he draws near.

Fear, lust, anticipation, and love wrap their invisible arms

Around my quivering flesh

As he draws near.

Through the curtains of my mind come visions of life,

As he draws near.

Desire, terror, panic, and admiration swirl their invisible bodies

Around my soft mortal shell.

He is here.

“I know,” he says, as he caresses my face with his cold hand.

“Let go” is the message in his touch.

I do, and freeze

As I stare into the face of my shadow.
