Synopsis

The New York Times Bestselling Author.
Nick Heller, private spy, exposes secrets that powerful people would rather keep hidden. At the funeral of his good friend Sean, an army buddy who struggled with opioid addiction, a stranger approaches Nick with a job. The woman is a member of the Kimball family, whose immense fortune was built on opiates. Now she wants to become a whistleblower, exposing evidence that Kimball Pharmaceutical knew its biggest money-maker was dangerously addictive. Nick agrees instantly – but he soon realizes the sins of the Kimball patriarch are just the beginning. Beneath the surface are the barely concealed cabals and conspiracies: a twisting story of family intrigue and lethal corporate machinations.
Praise for the author: “Gripping, trenchant and human. One of the best novels I've read this year” STAV SHEREZ.
“Stunning ... I cannot remember when I last read a book so gripping and so satisfying” PETER JAMES.
”A masterclass in tension, with complex characters and a twisty plot” J.P. DELANEY.

There’s a very good reason why Joseph Finder is among my favorite thriller authors. House On Fire epitomizes everything that makes his books must reading for me. Ex-soldier turned private detective Nick Heller is a multi-faceted character you can’t help but root for, the supporting cast is outstanding, and even the antagonists are well fleshed out. The author keeps us guessing about who may be or may not be Nick’s allies as he is pulled deeper and deeper into the myriad disfunctions of the Kimball family. The plot of the story, which centers around the opioid epidemic and the companies that fuel it, is a twisty, turny delight. The exhaustive research Finder puts into his novels shines through here, making House on Fire not only a highly enjoyable read, but also a primer on the subject at the heart of the story. The resolution packs a punch and a couple of late surprises I didn’t see coming. Finder has outdone himself yet again.
