Ronan-She Worth It?

 

 

The party was in full swing. The bar, fairly sizeable, seemed to have been shrunk by the size of the crowd. Navigating it would have been annoying if I wasn’t currently on cloud nine and still hyped up on adrenaline.

 

"Hey, man! What the hell are you doing? Everyone's waiting for you at the bar."

 

Usually, some random guy shouting at me would have put me on high alert and in a bad mood. But not tonight.

I was surprised when Teagan leaned toward me with her arms out, but I gladly leaned forward to accept her quick hug. "Congrats on winning. It was an awesome race and you definitely deserved first place," she enthused.

"Thanks, Teagan."

 

"Why are you thanking me? You were on your own out there."

 

But the only reason I was there in the first place was because of her. Nothing else. I wouldn’t have gone into the underground circuit of my own free will without a good reason.

 

A year younger than me, tall and beautiful, Teagan. I knew she loved going to the races on the underground biker circuit. It was the reason I decided to be one of the racers. Right. I'd won a lot of money because of the competition. The amount surprised me. I hadn't been eyeing the prize when I took part in the competition, all I thought of was being the best so she would look at me the way she was right now. It wouldn’t have mattered to her if I hadn't won if I did well, but I wanted to impress her. It took hours of practice, training, and a few minor accidents.

 

It was worth it.

 

"I don’t know what I'm going to do with it." Lie. As soon as I heard about it, I knew what I wanted.

 

"Oh, come on, you really have no idea? If you don’t want to buy anything for yourself?  You could grab any woman in here and they'd go with you wherever you said if you shared your earnings."

Just having her there to celebrate with me was a big win.

 

"I don’t know. I mean, I could, I've had several offers already, even though I haven't been here twenty minutes and I don’t think I knew any of them. But whoever I do end up spending it on would have to show they are worth it."

 

She paused with her drink part way to her mouth, slowly lowering the glass back to the bar top as she turned her eyes to me, sparkling with interest.

 

"Is that so?"

 

I leaned against the bar, the limited space meaning I also got closer to her. "I could always spend it on you, Teagan. That is if you're interested."

I was jumping the gun, and I knew I could ruin everything by trying to make a move on her.
