Halfhyde and the Fleet Review
- eBook
Synopsis
With an extended tour—during which his bravery and seamanship were put to the test—finally behind him, the intrepid Halfhyde returns home for a review by the Queen and is assigned to act as a buffer between Victoria and the irascible Admiral Watkiss. When he was no longer required by the Royal Navy, Watkiss had entered the Chilean service as their naval Commander-in-Chief and was later rescued from his disillusioned superiors by Captain Halfhyde. But now a coup has returned Watkiss to favour and the Admiral is in command of the Chilean battleship Almirante Smith, proceeding to Portsmouth to take part in Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee fleet review. Halfhyde's almost impossible task—with the attendant risk of murder and mayhem—is to keep Watkiss safe and out of trouble during Her Majesty's presence at Spithead off the Isle of Wight.
