Scott Grey, an army nurse from Aberdeen, attends a regimental association coffee morning at Erskine nursing home in Edinburgh. He meets one of the residents, a Gordon Highlander veteran who served during the Malaya conflict. They get chatting.
The events take place several weeks after his first book, The Grey Lady Ghost of the Cambridge Military Hospital, and before book two, The Drummer Boy, in the Grey and Scarlet series of novels.

Praise for Christmas at Erskine:
A lovely story. Scott is continuing his journey to recovery and his journey to helping lost souls. Extremely clever writing by the Author. Really enjoyed reading and can't wait until the next book. .
Thought I would just read a couple of pages before going to sleep...before I knew it I was on the last page! It is an interesting, quick easy to read short story. Chris writes in such a way that you can really envisage the scenes he creates on paper.
Absolutely brilliant short story. Anyone who has read "The Grey Lady Ghost novel will love this. As I finished it, I just wanted it to be longer. Wanted more about Scott. Well done and can't wait for the next book.
