Synopsis

College student Gina Campanello heads to the Midwest on a travel assignment, but a missing Dutchman sends her chasing around the carillon!

Gina Campanello is thrilled when Happy Travels offers her a paid internship. While traveling between jungle palaces and island paradises, the college sophomore envisions writing profiles that will secure a spot in the School of Journalism. Maybe the publishing company will send her to Paris!

Instead Gina is assigned to the Midwest. Her trip will coincide with the yearly International Carillon Festival in Springfield, Illinois. The city's bell tower is famous, and Gina becomes intrigued after she makes friends with Vlinder Van de Velde, the festival's top-billed musician. Before Gina and company reach the capital city, Vlinder disappears. After he misses his first concert, Gina realizes the world-renowned performer is in trouble—and she and her friends are the ones who can save him.

Excerpt:

I plugged in my thumb drive and turned up the volume. Deep pings reverberated so loudly I gripped the steering wheel with both hands. The girls took their noses from their comic books long enough to lean forward and frown.

“What's that noise?” Angie asked.

If I hadn't known better, I might have guessed a chorus of car alarms. “Carillon music.”

The metal clangs hit a higher register and tinkered through the air in quick spurts.

“I believe we are hearing metal bells,” said Sompong. “Is that right?”

Stella rummaged around for her earphones. “They sound a little out of tune.”

They were bells, all right. Sixty-seven of them.
