Tessa Bailey

About the author

Tessa Bailey is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after her high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans, and laptop, and drove cross-country to New York City in under four days. Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend, and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention.

She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband and daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.

Hook, Line, and Sinker (Bellinger Sisters #2). By Tessa Bailey. 2022. Avon (eBook ARC).

I’ve really liked reading some of Bailey’s books, but there have been some ho-hums for me as well. This book would probably be my least favorite to date. Fox has a lot of issues that he continually self-sabotages himself over. While this could be delved into, hopefully achieving realizations and healthy steps forward, thanks to friends, family and love interest; there is no growth or healing. This reminds me of Dominic’s PTSD not being really addressed in “Love Her or Lose Her.” So now there is a pattern. And Hannah is dull. I just couldn’t form an attachment to the characters or plot.

It Happened One Summer (Bellinger Sisters #1). By Tessa Bailey. 2021. Avon (eBook ARC)

Brendan, a gruff, widowed fisherman finds himself pining after Piper, a LA socialite, who has come to town to prove to her stepfather she can rise above her shallow ways. Overall, this was an entertaining romance centered around two individuals rediscovering themselves enough to open their hearts up to each other, despite the misunderstanding in the last act that many authors seem obligated to do.

I love the story of Wes and Bethany so much!

Bethany presents herself to the world as a perfectly secure and confident woman. What the world doesn't see is the stress Bethany puts on herself to keep that façade up. In reality, Bethany is afraid of failure…in anything. The thought of anyone seeing her flaws or messing something up is terrifying to Bethany, which is why she doesn’t allow people close to her and generally tends to self-sabotage her relationships with men.

Wes is 7 years younger than Bethany, but is going through his own journey. Wes is suddenly thrust into a caretaker role for his young niece, a position he’s not exactly comfortable with after being a bachelor bull rider in Texas. Never having a stable home growing up, Wes didn’t see himself settling down, but between his growing affections for his adorable niece and Bethany, Wes is suddenly less excited at the possibility of getting back to his old life.
These two come together when Bethany takes a chance by stepping away from the family business to flip a home on her own and Wes happily comes with her. What follows is a story that is sometimes tense and emotional, but oh so fulfilling. The growth of each character as the story progresses is fun to watch. In the end, both Wes and Bethany prove they have what is takes to step outside their comfort zones and take a chance on one another.
