History lies at the heart of every Steve Berry novel. Since 2009 Steve and Elizabeth have traveled across the country to save endangered historic treasures, raising money via lectures, receptions, galas, luncheons, dinners, and their popular writers’ workshops. To date, nearly 2,500 students have attended those workshops. In 2012 their work was recognized by the American Library Association, which named Steve the first spokesman for National Preservation Week. He was also appointed by the Smithsonian Board of Regents to serve on the Smithsonian Libraries Advisory Board to help promote and support the libraries in their mission to provide information in all forms to scientists, curators, scholars, students, and the public at large. He has received the Royden B. Davis Distinguished Author Award and the 2013 Writers for Writers Award from Poets & Writers. His novel The Columbus Affair earned him the Anne Frank Human Writes Award, and his historic preservation work merited the 2013 Silver Bullet from International Thriller Writers.

Steve Berry was born and raised in Georgia, graduating from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University. He was a trial lawyer for 30 years and held elective office for 14 of those years. He is a founding member of International Thriller Writers—a group of more than 2,600 thriller writers from around the world—and served three years as its co-president.

Does the Pledge of Christ from centuries ago really exist...That is what Cotton Malone has to figure out after being sent by his former boss to assist the Vatican in a secret matter that goes terribly wrong. During the assignment Cotton further learns that there are many members of the Vatican that cannot be trusted as they will lie, cheat, steal and even have murder committed to get what they want. That is not a good look for the church, and so many others will cover it up. Cotton, with the help of a trusted few from the church, will expose the main one committing these terrible acts and see that the Pope is made aware and that this person is stopped permanently. Along the way this book adds lots of real history from centuries ago as well as some very interesting not true elements that add very well to the over all book.

But there was still that crap.

Determined to rescue the partner he’d left behind Luke Daniels finds himself embroiled in a situation way bigger than anything he’s ever faced before in this action packed adventure that also doubles as a in depth history lesson of the former USSR. I can guarantee you’ll never look up at the sky the same way again after reading this!

I’ve been waiting for Luke to get his own story and it was even more amazing than I could have hoped for! I was hooked in the first chapter, from a flashback to Luke meeting Pappy to Luke rushing to the aid of a former friend with benefits. And just when it can’t get better, that ending! Holy....

Cotton Malone is helping out a friend from his days with the agency. It was supposed to be an easy thing; and then it wasn’t. All of a sudden he is being chased by men with guns. What could they want? It seems there is something from the late 1800’s that many governments want to get their hands on and they will do anything to get it; even tho no one is sure it even still exists, or even if it ever did.
