An Innocent Client is the first book in Scott Pratt’s hugely successful Joe Dillard series, and it’s easy to see why the series has been a hit. The story moves along at a good clip from beginning to end—always a plus. Dillard is a multi-dimensional protagonist, a stand-up guy with a few issues that round him out nicely. The supporting characters are finely drawn, with just enough quirks to make them memorable and distinctive. There is much to like about this book, and the rest of the series measures up to the high standard set by this first novel.
