We have Verity! I was so excited to get my hands on this book. I’ve loved everything about this sister and couldn’t wait to see how her story was going to play out. To be paired up with her phantom? Oh my! It was absolutely thrilling!

I appreciated Verity’s strength and independence. For a woman of her time she was more than capable of doing her part in the sister’s business as well as holding her own within society. It was so fun to watch her meeting with Rafe and her suspicions of him being her Jack in the Green. As they continue to meet, her suspicions continue to grow and I couldn’t wait to find out what her reaction was going to be.

While Rafe isn’t the most alpha of heroes in this series, he won my heart not only by his relationship with his uncle, but by his concern over Verity’s reaction when his truth would be revealed. And just because he wasn’t the most alpha does not mean he didn’t hold his own. His actions with Verity were hot and steamy as well as deeply, achingly protective. And oh my! At one point my heart just ached for him.

This was so much fun reading! It’s filled with everything I love about historical romance and it felt genuine to the time. With the perfect blend of humor, mystery, steamy goodness and angst, this was pure perfection for me. Add in the fact that at one time I found myself actually welling up and swallowing down tears, and this makes my first favorite of the year.

I loved the first book in this series and this one was definitely its match.

Eliza was a strong, independent working woman during a time when women of her social status did not work. I enjoyed watching her handle the challenge set before her and her co-owners. She was sharp minded and quick to see positives or negatives in any given situation. Her reactions to Nathaniel entertained me from beginning to end.

Nathaniel was totally swoony! He wasn’t slow to make a move and when he did, holy heck! My Kindle was close to steaming! I couldn’t help but smile when he was so blind to a certain situation regarding someone else’s emotions towards him. Men!

Eliza and Nathaniel were incredible together. I loved the uncertainty of where their relationship was going to go. Obviously, I knew where it ultimately was going to end but getting there was so much fun. With secrets on both sides, they had a good bit to work out, especially on Nathaniel’s part. With a perfect epilogue for them and a bit of build up for the next book, this is definitely my new favorite by this author.

This was a perfect “take me out of the real world” read!

Diana was such a strong, independent, fun and at times a bit quirky, heroine. I loved that she was able to step away from society’s conventions even as she made a place for herself among the ton. Her engagements with Geoffrey were so much fun.

Geoffrey was a big, burly, hero with a bit of grumpiness to round him out into the type of hero I adore. Especially when it’s apparent he is attracted to Diana. The moments when she was correcting him for his boorish ways, especially reading it from his point of view, were so cute.

The chemistry between Geoffrey and Diana sizzled from the first moment they met and things between them continued to sizzle even as their relationship grew. The conflict felt real and added some angst but nothing too heavy.

There were several scenes where this author showed her knowledge of what certain events and situations required. While this can sometimes bog the story down, that was not the case here. It was all included in a way that kept me intrigued and happily following along. I loved it all.

What a great ending to this exceptional series!

I love a heroine who knows what she wants. Put her in a historical romance where society’s conventions put a restraint on those desires, and that provides all kinds of fun outcomes. Ms. Jeffries took Vanessa’s desire for Sheridan and turned his world upside down. I loved how Vanessa was smart enough to maneuver the situation to fit her needs. Sheridan didn’t have a clue he was being gently manipulated.

Watching Sheridan manipulate Vanessa, unknowing that he was the one being manipulated, was just too much fun. It was plain to see how he truly felt, despite his ignorance of his own feelings. Give me a hero that is jealous to the point of acting impetuously, one that is protective beyond reason, and I’m a happy reader. Poor Sheridan. He never had a clue.

This is a fast read with so much wit and fun throughout, involving all the characters from the series. I adore the way this family harassed each other with love. There is plenty of drama as the whole group continues to investigate who the murderer might be. Along with the relationship angst between Sheridan and Vanessa, there are also some pretty hot and steamy scenes with this couple.

Overall, a perfect book to wrap things up all while giving us a happily ever after for Sheridan.
