Louise Vilmorin Follow

French writer Louise de Vilmorin was born in 1902 in Verrières‑le‑Buisson into a well‑known family of botanists. She was once engaged to Antoine de Saint‑Exupéry, and after two marriages and the birth of her three children, she later had several notable relationships, including one with Duff Cooper, the British Ambassador to France. She ultimately spent the end of her life with André Malraux, the love of her youth. A dynamic and brilliant intellectual, Vilmorin hosted salons that attracted nobility, wealthy patrons, designers, and artists. She maintained lively correspondence with many prominent figures, including Jean Cocteau. A talented and versatile writer, she published her first novel, Sainte‑Unefois, in 1934, followed by twelve more works centered on emotional entanglements and intrigue. She also wrote screenplays, short stories, essays, and poetry. Vilmorin died in 1969 at her family’s château in Verrières‑le‑Buisson.
