Kim Newman Follow
Kim Newman, who also writes under the pseudonym Jack Yeovil, is an expert on horror and sci-fi cinema, with works of film criticism including Nightmare Movies and Millennium Movies. His novels extensively draw upon the tropes of horror, sci-fi, and fantasy, blending them in a complex and irreverently referential style. Notably, his Dracula sequence—Anno Dracula, The Bloody Red Baron, and Dracula Cha Cha Cha—depicts an alternate history in which Count Dracula briefly conquers Victorian Britain, masterminds Germany's air aces during World War I, and endures into a jet-set 1950s filled with paparazzi and La Dolce Vita. Throughout these works, Newman weaves in countless references, ranging from Rudyard Kipling to James Bond, Edgar Allan Poe to Patricia Highsmith.
