Oh my gosh! I loved this book so much, as soon as I finished it, I was ready to relive it all again! This was so freaking cute!!! I immediately connected with Rosaline and Elijah. They were both so unique from what I’m accustomed to reading.
Rosaline is small framed and has a proclivity that I’ve never found in another heroine. She does things that had me grinning from ear to ear and yet at the core of it was something that made my heart hurt for her. I loved her so much. She was the perfect counterpoint to Elijah and that fact is what helped to create the connection I felt with her.
Elijah was AMAZING!!! He was coarse and rough, lacking social graces as well as any desire to gain them. I loved his often grumpy manner as well as the thoughts he often had that made me laugh. It didn’t take him long to claim Rosaline as his own, and yet he had a history that was almost impossible to overcome when it came to the issue he would have to face with her.
This started out fast and continued with a pace that kept me turning the pages. Although this is a relatively short book, it captured my attention immediately, made me fall in love with this couple and kept me engaged from the very beginning. While it doesn’t consume the story, the chemistry between Elijah and Rosaline was HOT! And when the angst cranked up, it was heartbreaking.
With an epilogue that left me smiling and wanting to twirl with happiness, I only wished I had more of this wonderful couple!

Wow, this was not what I was expecting.
Francesca was one tough, original heroine, unlike any I’ve read before. She had set before her a plan and she wouldn’t let anything stop her from it. The things that she did were quite unique for a woman of this era, and I did struggle some with her choices and actions. But in the end, she won me over as she proved everything she did was for those she had loved and lost.
Chandler also exhibited some unique qualities although they were more fitting for the time. He was intensely protective of Francesca and that protectiveness grew exponentially the closer they became. He did react at one point in a way that made me want to smack him, but he totally redeemed himself and I, like Francesca, forgave him.
This has a lot of drama and angst with just as much mystery and danger. I never knew what was going to happen next. Each few pages something happened that kept me fully engaged and refusing to close the book. The surprises just kept coming and I was breathless with shock and awe with each one.
While this takes place in the latter 1800s, I did feel that there were times when the story felt much more modern. That did distract from the overall feel and depth of the story for me, but I still enjoyed it and was overall very satisfied.
