Fred Skolnik Follow

Fred Skolnik was born in New York City and lives in Israel. He attended the City College of New York and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Over the years, he has worked as an editor and translator and, at various times, operated a farm, managed a hotel, and served as financial comptroller of a textile firm.

He is the author of six previous novels—three under his own name (The Other Shore, Death, and Basic Forms) and three under his Fred Russell pen name (The Links in the Chain, Rafi's World, and The Nightmare: A Sci-Fi Fantasy)—along with two collections of stories.

Skolnik is also the editor-in-chief of the 22-volume second edition of the Encyclopaedia Judaica, which won the 2007 Dartmouth Medal. Other award-winning projects with which he has been associated include The New Encyclopedia of Judaism (co-editor, 2002) and the three-volume Encyclopedia of Jewish Life Before and During the Holocaust (senior editor, 2001).
