About the author
Douglas Toft is a writer and editor whose 35-year freelance career included work for Hazelden Publishing, Mayo Clinic, Houghton Mifflin, UnitedHealthcare, and Cengage Learning. He served for many years as an editor of Becoming a Master Student, a college textbook that has sold more than three million copies across eleven editions. A student of Buddhism since attending his first meditation retreat with Shinzen Young in 1987, Toft has also been deeply influenced by the spirituality of the Twelve Steps, the Gurdjieff work, and embodiment-based approaches to awakening. After retiring from client work in 2021, he turned to fiction to explore the intersection of bodywork, sexuality, and spiritual practice. He lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with his wife, Joanne, and writes about embodied spirituality on Substack at dougtoft.substack.com.
