I read this over the weekend, and I’m so thankful I found it. I was in a deep reading funk with everything going on in the world today. I haven’t been able to get through more than a chapter in months.

Katie Mettner has rescued me from that funk.

The German’s Guilty Pleasure is a wonderful, clever, and sexy read. The characters are witty but not annoying. The setting is well written but doesn’t overpower the plot. The sexual tension is off the charts, but she didn’t overdo it! The sexual tension draws you in and keeps you turning the pages, but she didn’t employ the ‘sex just for the sake of sex’ method of writing romance.
This book isn’t erotic; it’s GREAT storytelling with a sexual edge. It’s romantic but not sappy. It’s quick-witted and down to earth in a way that makes you want to be a part of the character’s world.
I especially love that the main characters don’t fall into a mold. The billionaire romance thing has been done and done, but Katie’s approach was different. Her billionaire is hot and sexy, but also a nice guy. Lars is a guy you’d like to have a beer with. He knows he’s got it, but he doesn’t degrade people or act superior because he has it.

If you love pure trope romance, that’s sexy and smart; you’re going to love Katie Metther’s The German’s Guilty Pleasure. I cannot wait to start on book two!

Katie Mettner has done it again. She’s made me fall in love with her characters.
Pia is beautiful and brilliant but not arrogant. She’s kind, thoughtful, and hard-working.
Seth is handsome and loyal but quite mysterious. BOTH ARE SEXY, yet completely oblivious to it
He’s been harboring feelings for Pia for a very long time but believed she’s out of his league.
Little does he know, she’s been harboring those same feelings for him.
I love how these characters are completely unaware of themselves and how great they are. Both pretending to play a role but both secretly acknowledging to themselves that it’s not a role. This is the fake-marriage trope done so well, you don’t even recognize it until you’ve finished the book.
Pia and Seth are an unlikely couple but in
Katie Mettner’s books, she always finds a way.

I really can’t say much more than that without giving away too much. No worries though, you’re going to want to read this one for yourself.

A note about the entire series.
I love the world Katie created with these books. I love that people can openly talk about sex and pleasure but it’s not crude. Katie has very tastefully made talking about sexual pleasures a normal conversation--as it should be. This subject shouldn’t be taboo and if people were more open to talking about it, we’d live in a much more accepting society. Bravo, Katie! The Kontakt Series isn’t erotic, just very well done romance.
If I could convince people to read any series this year, it would be this one. If I could convince people to check out any author this year, it would be Katie Mettner.

Being a huge Katie Mettner fan, I was expecting to love Butterflies and Hazel Eyes, but for some reason, I wasn’t expecting the emotional roller coaster she put me on. Have you ever wanted to just take a character in your arms and give them a long, warm hug? That’s how I feel about every character in this book. Maybe I want to hug everyone from the isolation of the Covid lockdown, or… perhaps it’s that Katie Mettner is an ace at making characters human, emotional, and loveable. Yep, that’s it. I bow to the master of character development. Katie always gets it right.

Charity isn’t your everyday hero, and have no doubt, she is the hero of this story, even though she’d never take credit. She is as sure about her work as she is unsure about the impact she has on the people around her. Having lived a nomad life for years, she doesn’t recognize true friendship and love when it falls in her lap. The acceptance she gets from the town of Plentiful is so confusing to her that she doesn’t know what to do when she’s faced with it. The inner conflict and turmoil really made me want to hug her. I can’t say more without spoilers. You have to read it for yourself to know what happens.
But don’t think that Gulliver isn’t a hero. He’s Charity’s hero, and she needs one. He’s been as equally hurt and let down in life as she has, but that doesn’t keep him from fighting for the girl. Even with their differences, he and Charity are perfect for each other, and that’s clear right away. The chemistry is strong between these two.
Katie has also added some strong and very loveable secondary characters too, and I’m thrilled she’s turning this into a series. I can’t wait to read Honey’s story. But not only that, in this book, the setting is just as much a character as Charity and Gulliver. Her descriptions of the Lake and surrounding area are so beautiful and so well-written (without being over-written) that I’ve immediately added Lake Superior to my bucket list.
Truth be told, I loved everything about this book.
If you love small-town romance written with a breathtaking setting and whodunit suspense, then you’re going to love Butterflies and Hazel Eyes. Don’t let the #ownvoices tag scare you away. These characters feel more natural and live more emotional lives than most romance novel characters in the top 100 list on Amazon.
It’s a 5-star read that will leave you wanting to save the pollinators and book a trip to the great lakes for a canoe ride with your soulmate.
