‘this game of fortune favored the ruthless’

Right from the start this book reaches out and grabs your attention. There’s no easing into the story at all, it’s one hundred precent octane starting with chapter one but then you get thrown off kilter with a hint of historical paranormal-ness that makes you blink. Suspenseful, check. Spicy, check. Humorous at times, check. The author’s best work, not so much but it really doesn’t matter, it’s a good story unless you’re a stickler for having all of your i’s dotted and your t’s crossed. If you are, skip this one. So it’s five stars for me on the romantic suspense front and maybe a three and a half stars on execution...we’ll call it a four star read this time.

If Shakespeare had been this entertaining when I was in high school I would have actually paid attention in class! The famed lovers lived happily ever after and spawned a whole litter of children including our leading lady, their eldest daughter, fading away at almost twenty and still a virgin! Rosie is everything her parents didn’t expect: smart, independent, a fighter who is completely poetry illiterate. She doesn’t believe in love at first sight until it happens to her...on the heels of her FIFTH engagement! Fearing her luck at regifting her fiancés is running out the last thing she expects if for this one to end with her betrothed dead and her the prime suspect in his murder! With the help of Nurse and the Fair Prince of Verona she’s got to solve the case before she joins the line of fair maidens in a tomb. Full of laughs, hijinks and madcap humor this is has got to hottest read of the summer!

This may be my favorite read of 2024 because it definitely sets a high bar for anything to follow! A remarkably well crafted thriller with white hot suspense, romance and over the top action. It takes a special talent to seamlessly weave a tale of this caliber into an unputdownable read. Bravo!

This is the beginning of I hope a fantastic series. I love the descriptions of this small town in Alaska. I love how Evie finally is able to reveal her true self. There are so many twists and turns. I love Evie and I learned to really like Zone. I love how the old and new sheriff are used in this story. If you like suspense you will not be dissatisfied with this story. I received a copy of this book from the author and through Harlequin for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
