Catrin Russell is a Fantasy and Romance author from northern Sweden. Her books are all written in English and are mainly part of the Epic and High Fantasy Genre. However, she does use influences from Dark Fantasy, and a touch of Fantasy Romance.
Growing up outside a small town, basically in the middle of nowhere, Catrin eventually moved to Stockholm, where she studied computer game development and design. Meeting her soon-to-become husband online, she lived outside of London for the best parts of a year, before finally settling down in Piteå, back in Sweden. Since then, three children and two dogs have joined the family.
With a background in design and holding a degree as a registered nurse, she writes novels in medieval settings, with plenty of action and romance. She often brings moral struggles, or highlights issues in society, into her writing. Another subject that is often highlighted is mental health.
Catrin also creates concept art, bringing her characters to life on the screen, much of which can be seen on her social media pages!

In this instalment, you get to see how the world is changing before your very eyes, and how our cast of misfits attempt to survive and adapt accordingly. With the additions of their own Objects of Power, they are obligated to learn (often the hard way) how to wield forces normally beyond their control. This is an exciting, fast-paced, action-packed, and downright awesome part of the series, setting up even more tension for the ending as (I believe) it will start unfolding from the next book onwards. There is an epic showdown on the horizon - I can taste it!!
So, what else is good in this book? Well, let me tell you - everything! The characters keep their previously established level of hilarity, banter, depth, spirit, and warmth. Every single one has a place in this story, and I thoroughly enjoy following along on their individual journeys.
I won't pretend like the romance part didn't help get me more invested. I'm a romantic at heart, so yes, it does sway me perhaps a little more than it should. But regardless, the characters are all well-developed and fleshed-out, no Mary Sues/Stues in sight, and they are distinct, likeable (loveable, even) and relatable! Everything I want in characters!
As to the story? The twists! The turns! One, in particular, I did not see coming, and I'm intrigued to see where this is going.
Trust me when I say: the Fate of Wizardoms is at hand, and I will most definitely come along for the ride and see this to the very end!
And trust me when I say - it only goes up from there! Like, sky-rockets!
Because this series has it all! From great world-building and fleshed-out, engaging characters, to a fantastic magic system (hats off!) and a highly entertaining story, this series has something to offer for everyone!
There is action, intrigue, power struggles, magic, large-scale battles, witty banter, romance, mythological creatures, and opposing Gods! Don't tell me you read that and still don't want to check this badboy out!! 😄
Now, go buy it!!
But that is far from all. The eight wizardoms fight for power between one another, and more dark monsters spawn, marking the beginning of what could be a most terrifying change - amongst the Gods themselves.
This book is not quite as action-packed as the first two, but it is in no way less entertaining. From cover to cover, this story held my attention in an iron grip, never letting up.
As with every great epic fantasy tale, things shift as the story progresses. Some characters steal the limelight perhaps more than others, but each and every one of them has a role to play, and are equally important to the story. They are all just as beautifully portrayed as in the previous books, and the changes they go through are fantastic to see, not in the least by Jace and how he softens, and Narine and how she becomes more relaxed and confident.
And there is romance! I'm not going to say there is a whole lot of romance, but more than enough to scratch that itch inside me.
TL;DR: This book, and the series thus far, has it all! From great world-building and fleshed-out characters, to a fantastic magic system (hats off!) and a highly entertaining story, this series has something to offer for everyone!
I cannot recommend it enough!

The power struggle between Wizard Lords is evident, and dark schemes and subterfuge are abounding! This book may not feature the same type of focused quest as the first, but it set the groundwork for what I believe will be an epic showdown of an equally epic series!
Following the first book and its excellent world-building, we get to experience even more of it as we - as readers - get to dive deeper into the magic system, and - you guessed it - the Balance of Magic.
The environments and the characters are well-described, and here we get to follow along with all those who were introduced in the first book, as well as a few more! Jace is as snarky as he ever was, and I found myself laughing out loud in several places as he drops his witty comments ("I can be quick" LOL). Narine is the sweetest, yet she is still a headstrong young woman.
Rawk, Rhoa, and all the rest are also treasured! The cast is well-balanced and distinctly different, yet complement each other perfectly!
I'm really enjoying this series and I'm excited to see where the story is heading! Onto the next!
Eye of Obscurance, the first book of the Fate of Wizardoms, features fantastic world-building, an interesting magic system, and even mythological creatures, all described to the perfect amount!
The story centres around an entertaining cast of characters. Rhoa - a small girl with a big heart and full of fierceness; Jace - a snarky, slightly abrasive but hilarious thief (grapefruits, lol!); Narine - a soft but daring wizardess; Rawk - an innocent, compassionate and loyal maker, and MORE!
Yes, there are more! And I loved every single one of them! The characters are fleshed-out and beautifully written, with clearly defined voices of their own, and they all have a role to play as the story runs its course through Eye of Obscurance.
It is easy to get lost in the tale because of its engaging nature, and you find yourself wanting to dig back in as soon as you are forced to put the book down. It's a real page-turner, exciting from cover to cover, action-packed, high-paced and utterly fabulous!
Eye of Obscurance is a great start to what seems an exciting series, and I look forward to reading the rest. I recommend this to everyone who enjoys epic fantasy because this is the genre at its best!
Note: I have listened to the audiobook version, and the narrator, Travis Baldree, does a great job at bringing the characters to life, and he keeps you at the edge of your seat as the magic (and action) happens!
