About the author
Billy Cotsis was born in 1977 in Canterbury, Sydney, to parents from the Greek island of Lesvos. He spent nearly a year of his childhood in Greece, and in total has lived there for three years.
In 1995, upon entering Macquarie University, he joined the well-organized and active Greek club, the Macquarie University Greek Association, where he spent four years learning about and promoting his heritage. A return trip to Greece in 1999 rekindled his passion for the country. Since then, he has dedicated much of his spare time to researching his Greek roots from Asia Minor and Lesvos, as well as exploring the remnants of Greek settlements in other countries. To date, he has traveled to almost 90 countries and over 100 Greek islands.
Billy is a prolific writer, with more than 350 articles published in Greek and local media around the world. Since 2012, he has written 27 short film and documentary projects and contributes history-focused articles to his blog, Herculean. He was also a presenter on the award-winning Meraki TV show.
By profession, Billy works as a public servant, improving communities and local economies, and he is a dedicated human rights advocate. An avid Manchester United and Canterbury Bulldogs fan, he is currently developing a feature film titled Once Upon a Time in Crystal Palace.
