Yet, when done well, it is an effective way of spinning up a compelling, complex, and richly satisfying novel. Alafair Burke certainly does so here, displaying a mastery of her craft as she delves deep into the minds and emotions of her characters., After I thought I had things figured out, the author surprised me with a final clever twist toward the end. A thoroughly enjoyable read.

To say this book is unpredictable would be an understatement.

Have you ever read something and thought you knew what was going on, then When something happened leaving you guessing? This entire book is like that. There were several times I thought I had it all figured out and in the end I knew nothing. Start to finish this one is a keeper. Alafair Burke keeps us guessing and there’s more surprises and plot twists to keep you totally engaged.

There is a blending of real aspects as well which helps keep it relevant and topical. The situation isn’t unlike one we’ve all seen at some point in the news. This book may just leave you wondering if the media always gets it right and is someone a victim just because they appear to be? The ending tipped this one to a 5⭐️ rating for me, such follow through to the theme that I really didn’t have a clue.
