Ahead of our chat with Mel on Tuesday June 27 we asked him to tell us a little about himself ... He told us: "I'm a native new yorker and a swiftie. I write heart felt romances that hit you right in the chest. I love writing strong, complex, women and the men who fall for them. "

BingeBooks: Where and when do you like to write?
Mel Walker: I'm a native New Yorker and love to feel the energy of the city. My favorite place to write is at a park near my house right on the waterfront. When the weather doesn't cooperate - I love to write in coffee shops and cafes. My favorite time to write is early morning.

BB: Is there anything - furnishings, art, equipment, etc - you always like to have around you when you write?
MW: I love to have music available. Sometimes I'll stream instrumental, and acoustic music, and other times a playlist of my favorite songs (depending on where I am in the novel).

BB: Who are your influences?
MW: Music is a big influence for me; I will also pick up inspiration from snippets of a conversation of someone walking by; a setting while riding my bike. Inspiration is all around.

BB: What are you reading right now?
MW: I just finished Blue Collar Crush by Jill Brashear and am super excited to start on Sweet Memory by LJ Evans. Find a list of some of Mel's favorite books and authors here.

BB: What book would you recommend for a great spring vacation read?
MW: Not the Marrying Kind by Kathryn Nolan.

BB: Have any of your characters ever surprised you? How?
MW: All the time. Most of them will take one look at my bare-bone outline and mutter "Interesting but I'm not going to do it that way - how about this?" In my novel "Trace's Forever" both the hero and heroine redirected the story into something totally different and the outcome was incredible.

BB: Cat or Dog?
MW: Dog all the way. I have a cat allergy.

BB: Tea or Coffee?
MW: Tea. (with lemon)

BB: Tell us in one sentence why readers love DOCTOR KNOW
MW: I stole this one-liner from a GoodReads reviewer - "This story is bursting with character, emotion, hope, and heart."

BB: Tell us in one sentence why you love writing - in general, and in your specific genre
MW: The magic of playing a part in bringing together diverse characters into a made-up world that quickly becomes real and tangible beings that you become attached to. The best part is racing along their journey alongside them and not knowing where it will lead (it is always a surprise). What a rush!!
