Another hit in the Costa Family Saga! Hudson and Bella’s story has been teased since the beginning, and it definitely delivers a heart wrenching punch. Both Bella and Hudson have faced serious emotional trauma, which still affects them to this day. I would say these traumatic experiences are the main reasons behind their actions and how they both live their daily lives. Bella became rebellious and always seemed to go out with the wrong guys. Hudson was a bit of a playboy, never forming a connection with anyone because he believed he wasn’t worthy of love. Without Bella’s rebellious nature I don’t think she would have had the confidence to push Hudson enough to give them a chance. I really felt for Hudson in this book, especially after learning about his last mission, and seeing how his father treats him. I was pleased that Hudson gave his dad a hard time and didn’t really forgive him in the end. Bella unknowingly helped Hudson heal, which lead to him opening up his heart to her. I’m so happy he gave them a chance, even after Constantine’s original comments. The tension between Bella and Hudson was so intense too. I could feel the strength and pain between the two every time they got close, but never crossed the line. Knowing you are meant to be with someone, but believing you are not able to must have been incredibly hard, especially since this went on for years in reality for our main characters. Hudson and Bella were perfect for each other in the end. They were best friends that didn’t judge each other, only comforted and supported one another in every aspect of their lives. Also, I think this story had one of the best twists I’ve read in a while. Brittney was brilliant in writing her misdirection of the main antagonist. Just when you thought you knew everyone’s role in the events of this story, there’s an unexpected revelation. I definitely enjoyed the mystery and crime solving detective work throughout this book. I look forward to Constantine’s book next. I have a guess at who is love interest might be, but also have a feeling it’ll be a complete surprise.
