I've only read a handful of Zoe Ashwood's books and until Cursed in Love, my favorite series was Sea Dragons of Amber Bay (another why choose paranormal romance). But Cursed in Love tops it and it's my new favorite this year!
Let's talk about the plot!
I won't repeat what's on the book cover description, but I'll talk about how I perceived it. The story is fast-paced and the descriptions are vivid, creating an almost movie-like experience. The quest and the adventure (with dangerous close-calls and all) give it a very Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider cross-over with a sexy witchy heroine who has a crush on her witchy best friend and partner (Levi) and teams up with an ex that happens to be a super hot ancient vampire (Raphael) who's still in love with her. There's also a mysterious Icelandic sea dragon who might join in the fun in the future ๐
What I loved most about the story is that it has a solid, riveting plot that keeps you at the edge of your seat. And then there's the relationship between the characters, which is deeper and more complex than in most why choose stories.
Just like it did in Sea Dragon's of Amber Bay, the relationship develops gradually and in a way that doesn't seem forced.
Zoe Ashwood excels at creating build-up and at times the tension between the characters is pulled taut. The intimate moments are sinfully hot yet tastefully done and leave you wanting for more.
The characters are well developed, each has flaws and secrets that I suspect we'll learn more about in future books.
I can't wait to read more about Nora's adventures and see what happens to their new relationship.
