About
As I wanted to share my love for reading, I created KFF’s website nine years ago. I can’t remember not having a book to read, and although I still enjoy the classics, I love getting my teeth into thrilling suspense, contemporary romance or romantic comedy. If the book impacts me, I simply review it.

Silver took me to gelato paradise in Little Italy NYC, where a previously thriving Italian family business is desperate for their uncle’s well-guarded recipe. Why? Alas, the poor man can’t tell them because he’s indisposed, and they have no idea for how long or if ever. As Silver’s stories go, she an ace at keeping us guessing. Can the Belotti famiglia find the secret to such a renowned vanilla cornet deliciousness?
Before walking into the oldie worldie gelateria, because it certainly felt like that, I met Iris, a young chef eager for changes. She’d every reason to escape to the city, make new beginnings and discover lost memories a parent had left behind and much more besides. But Iris has an heirloom she suspects no one else is aware of–goodness me, Silver exceeded herself here because, as well as keeping me on the edge of my seat, the story’s pacing picked up at a speed that had me skimming pages. Okay! So, my impatience might have got the better of me, but I never missed one word.
If you haven’t already got an ice cream maker, I have little doubt you’d like one like Iris’s. I confess to getting quite attached to it. I wanted to know the ins and outs of the workings and why it was special. So, while she’s trying to make magic with the ingredients unhurriedly, jot them down: the smoothness, creaminess and consistency her new friend is looking for could save this emblematic sundae parlour. The delicious toppings might even give you an idea or three, too.
It sounds a tad strong to say I hero-worshipped Gio, but he certainly has all my must-have attributes for a book boyfriend. Attentive, hard-working and gorgeous to boot, I loved observing his faith in Iris. However, handling ‘what-ifs and what-nots’ could make or break it for those concerned. I bonded with his oh-so-Italian sisters instantly. Respectful of their heritage, imagining the whole tribe making gestures flying here, there and everywhere was easy-peasy. Now for Bobby–the one. I’d welcome Iris’s landlord into my life at the drop of a hat. He encourages her, soothes troubled waters and is beyond loveable.
If there is one author who knocks her readers for six in the space of a few paragraphs, it has to be Silver. Like a domino effect, Iris’s past and an unsaid truth catch up with her, getting me to reach out for that rectangular box again! But communication is the key. It’s plentiful, intelligent, and assertive, and I loved every single minute of it.
If you have a passion for ice cream, like Italian families that don’t have a filter between their brain and mouth, swoon-worthy characters in a well-thought-out plot with a baddie you’d gladly give a good talking to and appreciable second chances, this book is for you! Bravo, Silver!
I was smitten with Maverick Waters a while back, and after finishing Little Lies, the first standalone in the Lies, Hearts & Truths series, I couldn't wait for Hunting to tell his story. So, it's time to see if there's not only a woman who'd be able to bring him to his knees but also find out how he's coping with past and present issues.
Maverick and Clover's first encounter had me grinning from ear to ear. But let’s fast forward a bit—surprise! They find themselves in an awkward situation which needs addressing. Although Maverick gave me the impression of being flirtatious and lighthearted, there’s much more to him than meets the eye. Family and friends have always banked on him, and it won’t take long before Clover realises he has a beautiful soul.
That said, I wholly understood Clover’s reasons for trying to keep Maverick at arms-length. However, in even the most heart-wrenching scenes, the author's tender touch is there, and it wouldn’t be Hunting without her humour, which often softens real-feel angsty moments.
Unfortunately, Maverick carries a heavy weight on his shoulders. Ooh, my poor heart! I learnt why he felt as he did only after Hunting ups the pace of this fast-moving forbidden romance. Not forgetting the family dynamics, a couple of heart-to-hearts throw light on a poignant memory. But what Maverick truly wants whilst trying to live up to his father’s expectations is complicated since letting his loved ones down isn’t in his book either.
Unfailingly observant about the goings-on around him, Maverick’s cousin made me sit up and listen to what he had to say. Yes, I’d go to the moon and back for BJ any day! How could I not finish this review without touching on the flowing banter, character development and steaminess? Wit, snappy comebacks and not-so-subtle advice arose at just the right time. Meeting up with the gang I’ve learnt to love was a delight, and last but not least—the sizzling chemistry. My oh my! Has Hunting built heat into her latest offering, or what?
Enthralling, impassioned and awe-inspiringly moving, Bitter Sweet Heart is romance at its finest. Bravo, Hunting!
Ooh my! There’s a strong possibility you’ll get hooked on the book in the prologue and from there on the build-up of tension is nothing less than mind-blowing. Helena walked me through Lavender Waters and Kodiak Bowman’s past histories and their angst-ridden present story by putting me in their shoes. My empathy for them was ten-fold when I learnt how they felt for each other. The thin line between love and hate becomes so apparent that all I wished for was the truth. But, overly protective actions had sown emotional agony, unknowingly blurring their feelings.
‘And my poor stupid heart breaks all over again.’
Lavender has a beautiful soul. Watching this desperately shy and traumatized child step out of her comfort zone and grow into a fiercely talented woman who gives as much as she gets was a joy in itself. Not only did she teach me a thing or two, but also her twin brother, River. Hopefully, by me nudging the author, we’ll be able to have his story.
‘The only person who can save me from myself is me.’
Gorgeously damaged Kody is mine, ladies! His dilemma or better said, misery meant I was in two minds about his present-day stance. Was punishing the person you’d always protected the way to make things right? No, but eventually his reasonings became clearer as I read on. Both parents, BJ...Lavender’s adorable cousin and his best friend, Maveric have their say sooner or later. Goodness me, her brother, Mav! I need this manwhore’s story like yesterday, too!
‘You can’t keep out what makes your heartbeat in the first place.’
This read destroyed me, put me back together and left an enormous smile on my face. I confess to shedding a tear or a three during sad scenes and the duct tape scenario which isn’t even the tip of the iceberg had me laughing out loud. Revenge is a sweet dish and man, does Lavendar know how to hand it out!
“You and me? We’re toxic together.”
Hunting hit my reading world with a punch. Faultless description of the uni scene, family worries and friendship, she drove home hope when there seemed to be none. I loved, loved, loved meeting up with the hockey crowd again and just blinking well read this novel! It is simply perfect with all its characters’ trials and tribulations. Bravo, Hunting!
“Damn. You're gorgeous, with a sharp tongue, and you play hockey? This is divine intervention. You're basically the woman of my dreams.”
Randall Ballistic JR, better known as BJ to the second-generation crew, brought out all the feels in his true fashion–yeap, my new book boyfriend’s mindset merited my total attention. Also, having already ogled the gorgeous cover got me wanting to jump into the book and give him a good smooching. No, seriously! His exuberance is so contagious, and his humour so uplifting that my cheeks hurt from smiling. Mind you–his serious side, which Winter Marks doesn’t see since they don’t get off on the right footing, is the beginning of a heartwarming journey I had no wish to end.
‘I flirted with her like a clueless, hormonal idiot, and she stared at me like I had two heads.’
Not only did I fall for Winter at the drop of a hat, but I’m still crushing on her! Although she runs her life with the precision of a Swiss watch, it’s not difficult to see that she’s struggling. Her vulnerability and insecurities allowed me to connect with her on a level I could never have imagined, thus fostering my empathy and understanding of a situation no young person with much to offer should ever be in.
“Wishes lead to disappointment.”
Observing Winter and BJ together was an absolute joy. Her sassiness, his flirtatiousness and being all in make for a memorable reading experience. Them having each other’s backs–addressing challenges and overcoming obstacles regardless of the hurt was perfectly imperfect because you can’t help but route for them.
“I got you, Snowflake. You don’t need to do this on your own.”
I loved that BJ was open with his best mates, especially Lovey. Their chit-chats and her advice to him will undoubtedly raise an eyebrow! And as is Hunting, the solid vibes she gives to a united family front shines through. However, a good story needs folk with ulterior motives, heavy on complications and conflicting emotions. Hunting’s thought-provoking writing kept me on my toes, yet she generously gave me breathing space by entwining bedroom therapy–for the wanting of a better word–into BJ and Winter’s story. Their off-the-charts chemistry is fun, sexy, and fan-grabbing to-die-for stuff! Don’t have a fan at hand? Then adjust your AC control to below zero because I had to!
“We’ve got nothing but time, Snowflake. No need to rush through all the fun parts.”
Love me nonstop banter, wisecracks and sharp comebacks, which Hunting is a dab hand at doing. If you’ve checked out my reviews of Little Lies or Bitter Sweet Heart, you'll know I have a soft spot for all the hockey squad and their love interests, but BJ and Winter blow the pages out of the book in the best possible way. I laughed aloud, swooned big time, and cried my eyes out. What more can I say except read it? Bravissimo for such an epic, unforgettable offering, Hunting!
So, well before the shocker, the narrator took me on his fast-paced and suspenseful journey. Theo is a psychotherapist and grabs the chance to work at a psychiatric hospital where a patient who’s fascinated him for a long while is. He delivers his inner thoughts with little compunction, giving me a clear understanding of how he felt about his co-workers. I also got an insight into his marriage, and observing him try to work out what his patient had previously had in hers is where I was thrown off-kilter.
Alicia slowly revealed her feelings in a diary, helping me comprehend why she’d chosen not to defend herself in what appeared to be a cut-and-dry crime. She’s surprisingly tenacious, and if there were one person I rooted for, it was her. Get your thinking caps on, folk! Alicia’s reflections are not only thought-provoking but also candidly told.
Magnificent character family-staff development, but what I enjoyed the most was Michaelides’ writing style. Hopping his protagonists’ POV and events back and forth in short chapters, truncated sentences, and flowing dialogue between all those concerned melded tortuously together when I’d virtually given up hope of finding out who was or wasn’t the culprit. Someone who I won’t mention holds one card, and what a card it was.
I found this author because of a book club I’m in and dived straight in without having any idea that this was the author’s debut novel. Goodness me, if this was his first, I cannot imagine what is to follow. With the right scriptwriter, this riveting read would be a blockbuster. Simply bravo, Michaelides!
Hailey is a newbie in town, trying to make a success of her salad bar. Excuse the pun, but she has a lot on her plate. Overcoming business challenges, getting to know her customers’ likes and dislikes, and picking up the pieces left behind, her enthusiasm to make it work is catching. I liked that she avoided being distracted, but if there were anyone who deserved to make new friends, it was her.
Love me a somewhat serious-minded entrepreneur, especially when he’s wary of taking the next step. But I was totally into his idea of having a friend of the opposite sex—in Wes’ case, no romantic strings attached which baffled me well into the read. Slowly, I would learn why he felt as he did. Even so, I appreciated his and Hailey’s effort to keep things in perspective but was eager to see if they’d eventually acknowledge their true feelings. And I enjoyed observing them support each other; however, it wasn’t plain sailing since former and current personal issues required addressing.
Frankly, Hailey and Wes annoyed me to such a degree it brought to mind how easy it is to look for an easy way out; having what makes life complete means trust. Would they be able to reach such a compromise? Okay, I love it when the author throws this kind of dilemma into a story, but as they say, it takes two to tango!
Being a gourmet lover, I relished what Hailey whipped up with what looked like the easiest finesse and the running of a similar firm I’ve had experience in felt genuine. Also, the importance Sullivan gave to the community was, for me, an added plus. The siblings’ dynamics play an essential part, but if you haven’t read each one’s previous books, don’t fret. The author will keep you in the loop. Yeap, anything family oriented is my thing, and the author drives home the brothers’ connection to a tee.
So, the best of the book. Sullivan takes her readers on Hailey and Wes’ journey of finding happiness with its ups and downs, coming to terms with bare truths and opening one’s heart with laughter, sorrow, and so much more. I’ll most certainly be keeping my eye on Sullivan’s new releases. Bravo!
My gratitude to St. Martin Griffin and NetGalley for the ARC in return for an honest review.
Circumstances dictate that Sienna Walker moves back to her hometown, joining a mean team of women detectives. As Bad Mother covers all the crime complexities of a serial killer investigation, paying attention to even the tiniest detail is essential. And although they’re all tuned into the pressing matter at hand, Sienna, for me anyway, is remarkable.
She thought she’d overcome her childhood/young adult trauma, but you’ll see why meeting Gavin after so many years out of contact worries her. Now leading a prosperous life, Sheridan makes her readers wait to know why Gavin decided to leave Sienna as he did. Working together when his expertise is called upon to help connect the dots of an unfathomable clue, the author wasn’t about to let the reader off the hook with just one twist. I felt like I was there alongside the team while they tried to fathom who was behind a trail of letters prodding them on.
Fast-paced, superb secondary character development—I liked Kat, Sienna’s partner, and their lady boss an awful lot; what I enjoyed most was how the pieces fell into place. That doesn’t mean I fathomed out who’d committed such morbid killings, and to say the disclosure shocked me would be putting it mildly. Yet, Sheridan pleased me no end by giving Sienna and Gavin a second chance, the moving romantic touch being a welcome distraction.
Not for the soft-hearted since there are some pretty gory and intense on-the-edge-of-your-seat scenes; if you like crime thrillers, I can’t recommend this full-length standalone novel enough. Bravo!
Bailey’s on her knees. Deeply sad, she worried me since I’d seen her fighting spirit blossom in book two. Here, Kash showed me how insightful he was to her every need and at this point, his calming effect on the family couldn’t have been more appropriate. After awakening her inner strength, it felt like everyone, myself included, sighed with relief.
‘You know I would come back to me and I did. I’m here Me. And I’m ready for the next chapter.’
Delighted to see Bailey back in the groove, I wondered how she’d manage the stress. But let’s not forget that she has an extraordinary talent that might work for or unwillingly against Kash’s plans. I loved the more profound and self-analysing Bailey. And I had to smile when she’d made her mind up to do something. This young woman is headstrong—unstoppable.
“I cannot control you, nor do I want to, but I am terrified for your safety.”
Revenge is certainly the keyword. As the enemy is still hot on their heels, I did wonder how it would all pan out without more casualties. You see, Tijan’s expertise with plot twists is second to none. I thought I was on the right track, and then bam! Namely, a new character. Ally, enemy—trying to work out whose side this individual was on kept me on my toes. Throw in other could-be villains for good measure, and I honestly didn’t know whom to trust. And folks, that is just what I like about Tijan’s storytelling. She has a knack for convincing you that everything’s running smoothly in the now, which couldn’t be farther from the truth.
‘Bailey wasn’t the only one keeping secrets.’
Oops, Kash is mine, ladies! He’s his own man, knows what he wants, treats those around him accordingly and loves his lady so much that if his actions don’t make you swoon—well, I don’t know who will. Observing him and Bailey’s relationship progress was a joy to read. Wow! And to say their chemistry is explosive would be putting it mildly.
“I’m not supposed to do anything except love, cherish, and protect you.”
And how could I not mention Matt? Not only does he have cheeky wit, but he’s also got his heart in the right place. Yep, I never had any choice. I was always on Team Batt! And I dare you not to fall for Bailey’s younger siblings, who are simply adorable. Tijan has made all her characters come alive by developing their personality traits impeccably. The plot? Exceptionally well constructed!
“You’re right. You’d never be a part of Team Batt.”
The Revenge has just what I look for in romantic suspense and is a worthy addition to an enthralling series I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. Bravo, Tijan!

I’m a great admirer of Tijan’s narrative writing skills. She has a knack for making her characters come alive and giving her stories a realistic feel, her latest instalment equaling this fact. I was a tad concerned about the newcomers’ names since I often have trouble remembering who is who, but not this time. Everyone slipped in nicely despite my antipathy towards a couple of individuals. And although this sounds contradictory, I loved hating them!
Impatient to see Kash again, having even more of him was a delight. This time around, Tijan gets down to the nitty-gritty in Kash and Bailey’s relationship. One gets the impression that nothing ruffles this tenacious man’s feathers, but when it comes to his woman’s security, he'd kill for her. No pun intended! Always protective of the people he cares for, his very being will be put to the test. I couldn't possibly tell you what I sensed was going to happen or whether it panned out how I thought it would because it’s nail-biting stuff you have to experience for yourselves!
Even though Bailey’s still adjusting to her current surroundings and changes, she’s determined to make things work. There was a point when I felt my heart go out to this lass whose fleeting what-ifs and insecurities made me sit back and think about the situation she was in. I adored her attitude, her extraordinary intellect and the effort she makes to fit in with her peers. Her openness with some family members and her deep affection for all of them were emotions I couldn't get enough of. The dialogue flows seamlessly throughout, but something felt off-kilter—and I waited, and I was left aghast.
If I could have, I’d have given Matt, Bailey’s brother, a hug! I’d certainly like to see if he’ll be able to overcome his issues in book three. A glimpse of their younger siblings left me wanting more and keeping my fingers crossed that they’ll be back in full force, too.
What scorching chemistry; what a jaw-dropping twist, what a gripping page-turner! Tijan’s storytelling never ceases to amaze me! Bravo!

Before anything, I have to mention the gorgeous cover. I could see Bailey clearly in my mind’s eye, and she’s just what I look for in a heroine. Tijan did a marvellous job creating Bailey’s traits. A trooper, inquisitive and incredibly talented in what she does best, her life changes dramatically. Finding out the lie she’d been living doesn’t go down so well, but she’s not one to ponder and gets on with it.
Kashton Colello becomes Bailey’s tower of strength. He protects and defends her tooth and nail, and although this alpha male is an enigma when his true self is revealed, everything made sense. And you’ll see that he isn’t just her saviour. Those in need of serious damage control can rely on him. Regardless of all the upheavals, this guy couldn’t put a foot wrong for me.
The dysfunctional family surrounding is high frequency, and Tijan’s primary and secondary character and story development has enormous depth. Really looking forward to the follow-up and for romantic suspense lovers, it’s a must-read. Bravo, Tijan!

Jess Montell had little idea what was in store for her when she and Trace West set eyes on each other. After doing his homework, he knew he’d have to make an effort to steer well clear of her or, at the very least, tread carefully. Jess learns who this gorgeous well-suited guy is the hard way, realising that there’s a lot at stake professionally and, perhaps, personally. Observing them fight against their inner desires captivated me; their thoughts and wishes for a change in the rules drove me deeper and deeper into their lives.
Jess’ job is a real eye-opener. Not only did I love her dedication, her tact and how she treated her hmm—clients for a better word, but her stand-up attitude. Therefore it wasn’t difficult for me to imagine what she was going through. Doing the right thing, she had always done—and now, how would she cope with the thought of having an off-limits relationship, and how would Trace, herself included, deal with the fallout?
There’s no doubt that the supporting characters are crucial for the plot’s flow, and while I could see a twist or three coming my way, I never envisaged how it would all pan out. I adored Trace’s best friend and work colleague—great witty guy banter here, ladies. And I liked that they had one another’s back more. But was it enough when they had ‘family’ breathing down their necks? I applaud Tijan for Jess’ best friend’s character development. Frankly, I didn’t like her that much to start with; but she grew on me, the boyfriend I questioned big time. That is what I like about Tijan’s writing. She evokes every imaginable feeling with such ease you’ll either want to give a character or two a good slapping or hug them to bits.
Tijan cracked the Mafia ambience and supposedly deep family ties, and what I liked most was the importance she gave to the steaminess. Yes, Jess and Trace make sparks fly; nevertheless, abounding warmth will make the most indecisive readers swoon to the moon and back. Without any inkling of a cliffhanger, Tijan’s last words left me speechless. No complaints here since I love on-the-edge, mind-blowing endings, and no need to say much more aside from awarding A Dirty Business five well-deserved stars Bravo, Tijan!
My gratitude to Montlake Romance Publishers and NetGalley for an early copy in favour of an unbiased review.
Of course, a heroine in the ‘line of fire’ adds more spice to the read—no pun intended here because you’ll soon learn who’ll be calling the shots. This time, Tijan has brought Molly Easter, a courageous but at-risk woman, together with Ashton Walton, who’d been running his family affairs for a while. As I’d expected, theirs is not a love match; however, not only do circumstances force them to look at each other in a new light, sparks fly in all directions.
Tijan has intertwined characters and prior events from A Dirty Business exceedingly well. I met Trace West, Ashton’s best mate and business colleague, and although their brotherly friendship is being tested, finding out who the true culprit is behind a savage happening will give them a run for their money. Sadly Molly’s on the receiving end of a fallout caused by whom you may ask! I got beyond exasperated to see that this person could easily have had the heart to tell her the truth. All I can say is he’d been a thorn in her side since she could remember; no surprise here after reading what she’d been through. Without wallowing in the past, she’s adamant about making her bowling alley a success.
So when Ashton drops Molly the bombshell, it’s a game-changer. I wasn’t that keen on her having to make a cruel arrangement with him in the first place. It seemed to me to be a means to his end to please third parties. Read the first book, and you’ll catch my drift. Not forgetting what’s at stake, the author barely lets her readers come up for air. It’s vengeance at its purest. Molly and Ashton’s descriptive steaminess compensated for blood-curdling scenes in a nonstop battle that had me on tenterhooks, rooting especially for her. Ashton? He’s on the ball, worming out the enemy, and despite him being an annoyingly drop-dead gorgeous anti-hero with his own backstory, he’s a good leader and protective of those he cares for.
I recommend reading A Dirty Business if you haven’t already since the author has addressed unanswered questions. Hoping there'll be more where this came from. Bravo, Tijan!
