Stephen Lee’s job is on the line. The principal consultant with Adalta, a leading management consulting firm, is given six months to prove himself worthy of promotion to partner, or accept his career with the firm is over. Zoe, his outspoken PA and all-round partnership cynic, warns Stephen he will be forced to sacrifice his principles simply to secure the invitation – a proposition he flatly rejects, steadfastly declaring his principles sacrosanct. But principles can be tricky things, especially when working for a dealmaker like Joe Solomon, Adalta’s eccentric Senior Partner, and competing head-to-head for a partnership position with Nigel West, the Churchill-quoting super salesman of consulting services. Add to the mix Hugh Richards, the hapless head of HR, and desperate times demand desperate measures.
