Synopsis
The quest seemed simple: find three lost books. Will his deeds brand him a traitor?
Wishing to prove himself worthy of his newly earned rank, Steigan scours the forest for a gang of murderous bandits. Instead, he encounters a woman who tells him that he is not who he thinks he is.
Confused by her taunts, Steigan uncovers buried superstitions about a namesake who once betrayed everything to which Steigan is now loyal. Yet like himself, his namesake rode a unicorn and bore a torch-shaped birthmark on his palm. An ancient journal penned by the man warns that long forgotten evils will awakening. Already Steigan sees the omens around him and knows that magic is returning. His only hope is the three books which he must recover.
Yet the past cloaks many restricted mysteries. Steigan exposes diabolical secrets and is accused of treason, forcing him to flee for his very life. The new evidence indicates his answers will be found in the forbidden ruins of a fallen city. Yet trespassing there will certainly seal his perilous fate.
